Asus ROG B460-F vs Asus ROG Z490-F? is it worth the extra money?

Hi,  just wondering if its actually worth it getting the z490-f vs the b460-f

I wouldn't bother will b or h series boards, as they lock the memory frequency which does affect the performance. 

and why would you pair a K sku chip with a B series board? 

budget for the board? you can go with the z490 tomahawk, gaming edge wifi or the vision G or the aorus elite, and those are all decent boards. 

and if you're just gaming, you can just go for a 10600k and that'll perform similarly as games do not scale up to 8 cores.

ok, i am not that tech savvy really so i had no idea about b or h series boards, and locking the memory frequency, and didnt know about k chip with b series board either. until now. ok so going for an i5 is fine? i dont need an i7 i dont even know the difference between i5 and i7 really lol

Just more cores and threads  and is slightly higher clocked, but gaming do not scale up to 8 cores so they'll perform similarly. 

you could just go with the 10600k assuming you're mainly gaming. 

as for the boards, the tomahawk uses 12 NPC302155 and the gaming edge wifi uses 12 ISL99360's and the vision G and the Elite both use 12 sic651 iirc and all of these boards will easily handle the 10600k.

okey yeah i see, but what about longevity, wouldnt it be worth it to get an i7? only if gaming eventually scales up to 8 cores i suppose. but wouldnt an Z490-F be a good choise also?

If you have the money then go for it. But usually saving money on CPU would allow you to buy a better GPU etc.

 

We're all about allocating the budget to get the best possible overall experience, here.

Quite an overpriced board last time i checked, all the boards i listed are quite good.

Future proofing isn't really a thing but if you can get the 10700k without sacrificing anything in the build then sure go for it.

i am indeed looking for the most price efficient items to get. so yeah considering what you said i'll stick with the i5-10600k for now, one other thing. what about cooling? is water cooling necessary?
