Ryzen 5 5600 + RX7600 or Ryzen 5 7600 + RX6600

Hi everyone, planning to update my pc soon and as the title says I'm wondering what be the better option between the two. R5 5600+RX7600 or R5 7600+RX6600

I know it seems a bit backwards pairing the newer gpu to older cpu and newer cpu to older gpu but those configurations come to about the same price.

All parts will be new, i just don't trust the 2nd hand market although I have looked.

My current system consists of :

CPU - i5 4590

GPU - 1050ti

RAM - 8gb single stick (motherboard wont accept more than x1 stick anymore)

M/Board - mATX H97

Storage - 250GB sata SSD, x2 3TB HDD's

New System :

CPU - ??

GPU - ??

RAM - 16GB (x2 8GB sticks)

M/Board - AM4 - B550M with wifi from Asus/MSI/Gigabyte

               - AM5 - B650M with wifi from Asus/MSI/Gigabyte

Storage - 1TB M.2 NVMe Gen4 (bulk storage probably going to a NAS)

PC is used for general use stuff like internet, MS word etc..., and games played are mainly minecraft, world of tanks, warthunder etc.

Just got a new monitor so now running everything at 3440x1440 so the 1050ti is doing it but the setting are pretty low now and i would like to get into some other games in the future. I'm not looking at playing at ultra settings but would like to be above 'potato' setting that the current rig is getting to.

I'd like to get 5yrs+ from the new system. Will probably add a 2nd larger NVMe in the future and possibly CPU and GPU upgrades later down the track and possibly RAM with the AM5 system if I go that way.

Ideally i'd like to get at least a 7700xt but that is just not on the cards for some time.

It has been about 8yrs+ since i have built a pc, so I've been doing a bit of catch up and recovering from the shock of the GPU prices compared to 2015ish.

I'm in Australia if that is any help.

Thanks for any feedback.

I would get the Ryzen 5 7600 and RX6600 because of the AM5 platform that hopefully still would be supported in 5 years when you decide to upgrade your CPU again. If you prefer right now instead of futureproofing go with the other option.

If you're buying new today, go for at least 32GB. The price difference between 16GB and 32GB is pretty small nowadays, games nowadays are starting to actually take advantage of more than 16GB, and with DDR5 especially the 8GB DIMMs actually have worse performance than their 16GB counterparts.

As for the combo, a 5600 is still a fast CPU, and if you have to sacrifice the GPU to get the faster CPU, that's not really worth it. Also, check the pricing of the RX 6650 XT and 6600 XT, those cards are very similar to the RX 7600 for performance while usually being a bit cheaper, so you might be able to save a few dollars there, and possibly even have enough money for the 7600 system by doing so (though this is unlikely).

Don't go AM4 if you can afford AM5.

Ryzen 5 7500F or 7600 non-X

B650 motherboard

32GB DDR5 6000

That should be doable, paired with a Radeon 6600...

Seems like the AM5 platform is the way to go. Upping the ram to 32gb sits me at around $1000aud which is realistically the most i want to spend.

New System :

CPU - Ryzen 5 7600

GPU - RX6600

RAM - 32GB (x2 16GB sticks)

M/Board - AM5 - B650M mATX with wifi from Asus/MSI/Gigabyte

Storage - 1TB M.2 NVMe Gen4 (bulk storage probably going to a NAS)

Future CPU, GPU, NVMe in the future if required.

Really appreciate the help everyone, thanks for helping see a clearer direction on where to go.

See here for b650m shootout... I recently got asrock b650m pro rs. You might rethink your preference of vendors after seeing this...

Wow didn't even know that was a thing, going by that I will have to go up a tier of motherboard, roughly +$60.
