I need help with supersampling

Hello 

I have an RX 570, and I recently found out about supersampling, or virtual super resolution in the AMD Driver Software.

I turned that on, and I can go past my native resolution, which is 1440x900. I want to run 1920x1080.

When I select that resolution, it just doesn't work. The image just gets blurry and it's moved to the side, like without it even being on.

I tested it on GTA 5 and Warframe so far, and it didn't work in neither.

Did I do something wrong or is there something else I have to do?

I'd recommend against using it in the first place. It basically does the same thing as ant-aliasing, but it does it worse, and it has a bigger performance hit.

 

You are much better off using a higher anti-aliasing setting.

 

Edit:

The only valid use case I can think of, is for a game that does not support standard anti-aliasing techniques.

I want it for the resolution mostly, I use RIS for sharpening the image, so that's not as important as the resolution. Also, my monitor is 60Hz so I'm fine with 60 fps.

are you sure your monitor resolution 1440x900? if so the super resolution you are trying to run is not scaling properly with the display. when set to 1920x1080 it is rendering a 16:9 ratio image then trying to squish it into a 4:3ish (WXGA+) frame which is causing the funky image. 
 

super sampling is not great yet and won't provide more clarity than anti-aliasing

My 1440x900 is 16:10, could that be the reason why it's not working properly?

Yes you would have to use either 1728*1080 or 1920*1200.

yep, you could try 1920x1200 to match the scaling ratio of the image and see how it goes. So far my experience with supersampling hasn't been great as you can't increase the number of pixels without weird artifacts and blurry image from the monitor trying to figure out which pixel colour to send and causing a messy image.

Oh, thanks. I'll try that then and let you know. If the performance is affected too much I'll just go back to stock.

I can't tell if it's blurry or not in game, but when I use it on desktop, the text is definitely blurry. So I guess it doesn't work properly then?

That's just how it works. Blurry is normal when it comes to super-sampling. You might have better results by sticking to integer multiples of your monitors resolution.

 

So 2880*1800 for instance. Or 4320*2700.

 

Edit:

1.5X might be a little better too. That would be 2160*1350.

I guess that just creates a whole another problem , sacrificing smoothness for blurriness. I won't use it then, hopefully they can improve this in the future, if I don't get a new monitor by then.

Just run at 1440x900, with an RX 570 you can afford to turn all the bells and whistles up and stay at a locked 60. Supersampling isn't worth the performance hit, instead consider mods or overclocking your monitor to 75hz.
