Is my gpu too hot

Theminirex

Hey guys so I recently put together a build just for desktop use and everyday use ( not for gaming ) . Anyways I bought a new rx 570 and all seemed well until I decided to test it with furmark . After starting the stress test my thermals shot up to 85 c in a matter of seconds and slowly keep climbing. I haven't got past 87 c yet as I'm scared of damaging the card. Is this normal for my card ( xfx rx 570) or is my thermal paste bad. I'm not sure can anyone help me out

while 85 and climbing isnt normal, furmark is a very extreme case

hows the case airflow? open up the side panel to see if temps drop a lot

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

My case has decent airflow it's the cooler master nr 400. I posted some pictures of the temps and gpu in an edit . Do you think it has something to do with how low my gpu sits in my case

It's not perfect but it's also far from bad. I can't tell from your picture but a intake fan in the front at the height of your GPU would likely ensure there is enough airflow.

Intake fan is as low as it can go ( around the height of the GPU) without blowing into the psu shroud

You are likely fine then. Like Moonzy said furmark is a very extreme case. Cards have thermal protections, it won't kill itself with heat plus 87 degrees still has some room. I'd let Furmark run for a good hour or so, if it hits ~100 your card may have a mediocre cooling mount, but if this rig isn't for gaming I would worry about it ever getting near that point.

Where are your front intake fans, is there one here??

I'd recommend turning up the front intake fans so air flows along the PSU shroud and the GPU is able to suck up fresh air.

Stick your hand UNDER the fans, does it feel warm? It might be pooling hot air there and needs more airflow.

Also worth re-pasting your card, first batch was available Nov 2017, might just have bad paste by now.

Only if your warranty won't be voided as it's still a new card

U would try blowing air underneath the GPU cooler, looks like there's not much space there for it to succ cool air

Didn't realize it's new. Still could be an early bin and sat in the Amazon warehouse for the past couple years aging the paste.

Tbh, you should just RMA the GPU (unacceptable thermals are an allowable RMA, I did it with a Zotac 1660ti that had a bad mount)

Perhaps get your $$ back and use it to buy a used RTX 2070 for around the same price, they're flooding the market and have around double the performance of that RX 570.

From the pictures it looks like you can do what I did. Put a fan or 2 under the GPU, IF there's enough clearance of course...

IMG_20200902_234933.thumb.jpg.34f7adeaa9cc145d1f19a8d113d85717.jpg

Brings my GPU temps down 3-4C which doesn't sound much but it's enough to get it under 60C under heavy load which is the magic number for GTX 1060 where they start throttling (my card never throttles basically)

In your case (literally) looks like you could put 2 fans (recommend high quality ones like be quiet or noctua)

Im fairly certain around 80C is the normal operating temp for rx5xx cards so they could return it because amazon takes back everything anyway, but then would need a different model of card for sure if they want lower temps.
