No Bios Update Required?

You think it would be a safe bet to go with the gigabyte board, then?

In my experience, basically all B450 boards will be updated to work with Ryzen 3000 CPU's, so I wouldn't think there is a thing to worry about.

It could be worth it to contact the store you're buying from to confirm this and possibly tell you if you could return the board (in the exceedingly unlikely chance the board isn't  properly updated).

I have been tasked with pricing refurbs and building a pc for someone. I noticed that the MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard  does not require a bios update to run the 3200G per pcpartpicker. Is this true? I was looking at the Gigabyte B450M DS3H Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard and PPP says that a bios update may be required to run it. Could someone let me know what their experience/thought is? Unless there is a good reason not to, I'd like to go with the Gigabyte as it is $10 cheaper and any savings would be nice. This will be an office build that needs to last for many years.

Instructions for frustration management:

I never said I was smart, just smart enough to be dangerous.

Yes.

All MSI MAX motherboards have been updated to be compatible with Ryzen 3000 CPU's.

Nowadays most motherboards will be Ryzen 3000 compatible out of the box.

When Ryzen 3000 came out, all motherboards that came out of the factories came with Ryzen 3000 ready BIOSes.

So unless a store has had the motherboard on shelves for a year or more at this point; it will work out of the box.

If this picture is on the motherboard box physically, you will know if it works:

The nice thing about JIT logistics of modern supply chains is that they can swap the BIOS they're flashing on the line pretty fast so after a few months you can be pretty safe buying from a major supplier (AZ, NewEgg, B&H etc)

Thanks. I am assuming from your lack of saying otherwise, that this Gigabyte board is one that is not known to cause issues (it seemed to get good reviews).

It's alright.

Not the best, but will run a 3200G just fine

Would I be better off getting the MSI over the gigabyte if I want this machine to last for the person getting it?

The MSI is pretty similar.

Plus, for the 3200G it doesn't matter.

It's more a of a big deal what board to get, if you for example use a Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 CPU in the system; which would use more power.
