Go to solution Solved by WereCat,

you have extra lanes from the chipset, you should have no issue using 2x nvme or even 3x nvme if your motherboard supports that many. When using 3x nvme, some sata ports may get disabled, check the motherboard manual

Hello,

I'm kinda looking into getting another m.2 nvme drive as an upgrade for my older hdd, but i'm not sure if my CPU would support another pcie 3.0 x 4 Connection, bc the ryzen 5 3600 has "only" 24 pcie lanes and the x570 chipset is supposed to take 4 lanes, my existing m.2 drive too and the gpu is on a 16x bus rn so in theory there shouldn't be any lanes left or am i missing something? So I was wondering if someone could help me answer that?

Ps: Sorry for if my english isn't the best :/  not my first language

I am not aware of this "X570 takes 4 lanes" thing. But even so; 24 - 4 = 20 - 16 = 4. So there would still be lanes left for the M.2.

But without talking about that, you can just look at any X570 motherboard and see they list the ability of their PCIe slots.

For example, I checked the ASUS X570 P and it lists it can work with a PCIE 4.0 x4 M.2 (via the CPU) and also a PCIE 4.0 x16 slot (via the CPU, for the GPU).
