Looking for a 3440x1440 UltraWide for around $600

I just got an Asus TUF vg35v... and i think i hate it. no playing around with the settings seems to help (especially because they seem to reset themselves at random), the thing is a smeary, washed out mess. I don't see how they could possibly call this thing a gaming monitor. It's "high refresh rate" but with how smeary motion is i would rather game at 60 on my old monitor which also had way better color. That coupled with how soft the image is... this thing kinda sucks... But i like the size and aspect ratio. So i want to send it back and get something else.

 

I'm looking for an UltraWide with:

 

1. Good Color

2. Good Contrast

3. Sharp Image

4. Low Motion blur

 

I would like high frame rate but after experiencing this thing I'd much rather have better overall image than high frame rates. My last monitor was an Asus PB278q. An art series monitor with excellent color and sharpness. would love something like that in UltraWide.

My guess is you do not like the panel type being a VA display. 

 

Go IPS, this will likely fulfill your first 3 requirements, that said 1440p UW IPS panels go for a lot more for high refresh rate and sub 5ms response rate, you would have to spend over $600.

i was just looking at the LG 34GN850-B. i don't what the difference is. it's about $300 more than i'd like to spend but it's not totally off the table

That monitor is $899 now. I hope it will drop a bit to below $800 in a few months. This monitor ticks all the boxes for what I want.

'-B' just refers to the monitor color as 'Black'. Some LG monitors come in either white or black thus the distinction on '-B' or '-W'.

 

I would also recommend the 34GN850, It is pricey but a worthwhile investment IMO. You can set a price alert with PCPartPicker so if the price drops you get an email notification.

It says it's 144Hz on an IPS panel? how good is that? and how's the G-Sync compatibility?

Works out of the box for me. in fact it's already enabled when i plugged it in. 48-144hz, but seems LFC is supported so you could say 1-144hz. its a great panel too, very good colors, very fast, some IPS glow 

 

it can do 160hz as well but is 8-bit color 

 

but if you want cheaper i heard of the Acer nitro XV340CK

It's 160Hz but it seems to be a very loved display. I have no personal experience with this specific panel though. My 100Hz IPS UW is very nice, slower response rate as well.

What about this:  aoc cu34g2x vs lg 34gn850-b

 

The AOC seems to have basically the same specs as the LG 34gn850, but MUCH cheaper.  What's the difference to make the LG so much more expensive?

i had both, i found the lg to be far superior, apart from contrast ratio and price. experienced some eye strain on the AOC as well
