My fx 6300 3.5mhz is supposed to reach 4.1 in turbo, but it only goes to 3.8  :(

I have forced Turbo Core "enable" in bios, and tried some single thread stress testing but didin't work. Only goes to 3.8.

What can be causing this?

How hot is it getting? Maybe its being throttled because its not cooled properly? Though I doubt that to be the case.

its not that.. its fine. Max temp under load and stress testing is 50ºC on the cores and 60º on the socket..

Chances are it will only reach 4.1 on 4 cores or less and 3.8 in applications that load all 6.

Turn turbo core off and manual set the multiplier to give you 4.0Ghz and test for stability. You are also using not sure a great board so watch temps and voltages and dont expect too much out of that board.

I have stock cooler :\

but It doesn't reach 4.1 when I stress test on one single core alone..  And it should..

The FX chips are optimized to work on 990FX chipset boards so the problem could be caused by your motherboard. Also these numbers are not a must if know what I mean. It can go up to that speed, it doesn't mean that it will. ;)

crap  :(

ok.. sou I will just overclock fsb to 3.8Ghz, that way it will do 4.1 turbo and I will get some extra speed on my ram too.

Or I just manually set 4.0 Ghz only overclocking the cpu like @Priller said..

Overclocking it to 4GHz or even a bit more if you have adequate cooling.

I have stock cooler yet..

thats why I want turbo to work properly..

Turbo dumps cores at 1.415V and 1.425V respectively for each frequency.

You can get 4GHz on most FX6300s with WAAAAAAAAY less than that. Closer to 1.3-1.325v manually, even on a lesser board.

I am stable at 4Ghz at 1.28v. But the max temp under load is 53º on the cores.. Still 9ª to the safe limit

But my ambient temp now is 11ºC, and in the summer will be around 31, so its not going to be a good idea..

Well take advantage of it whilst you can. I'd leave turbo off personally. At stock clock you can probably run like 1.2v with 50-75% loadline calibration on the vcore.

I think I've found the problem.

I have AMD overdrive installed and I didint even remember. There I can change the turbo from 3.8 to 4.1 or whatever I want. Maybe overdrive was locking my turbo on 3.8.

Try changing the vcore for each turbo step. It's quite an agressive voltage designed for the crappiest of chips to achieve those clocks on at least 1 or 2 cores.

in amd overdrive you can change the VID, but I set the voltage in the bios, so it will not pass 1.320v no matter what the VID is, even at turbo

I can't change some of the options, I don't know why, they're greyed out. Is this normal?

Yea some of the cores are grayed out, my (Portuguese?) isn't good so from memory the tick box with select in it makes all cores run equal rather than staggered, the one you want is the VID CPU one :).

For that kind of clock you'd probably be good with 1.35 if your silicone is a reasonable bin (within the 70%) it'll be just as stable as 1.425v without kicking out as much heat and throttling :)
