b550 aorus master or x570 tomahawk?

suflair

Hey guys, after weeks and weeks of waiting for the x570 tomahawk to enter pre-order status again, i finally managed to get one (aprox ~$254), but i saw a b550 aorus master for $250, which one would you guys recommend me to get?

One big reason that I can remember straight away is PCI 4.0.

i see, the x570 is more future proof right? just wanted to make sure i bought the best motherboard in the $250 price range.

Thanks!

if youre only using 1 m.2 or you dont care about gpu lanes and have 3 m.2, the b550 is the way. performance-wise its a monster, the vrms and memory overclocking is top notch. very good build quality as well, has the fancy bells and whistles like a backplate and all that.

topics i need help on:

Spoiler

my "oops i bought intel right before zen 3 releases" build

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (placeholder)

GPU: Gigabyte 980ti Xtreme (also placeholder), deshroud w/ generic 1200rpm 120mm fans x2, stock bios 130% power, no voltage offset: +70 core +400 mem

Memory: 2x16gb GSkill Trident Z RGB 3600C16, 14-15-30-288@1.45v

Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming

Cooler: Noctua NH-D15S w/ white chromax bling
OS Drive: Samsung PM981 1tb (OEM 970 Evo)

Storage Drive: XPG SX8200 Pro 2tb

Backup Storage: Seagate Barracuda Compute 4TB

PSU: Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium 750W w/ black/white Cablemod extensions
Case: Fractal Design Meshify C Dark (to be replaced with a good case shortly)

basically everything was bought used off of reddit or here, only new component was the case. absolutely nutty deals for some of these parts, ill have to tally it all up once it's "done" :D

considering money isnt a problem, is the x570 master the way to go?

well in that case yes lol, or a c8 hero or anything else then. tbh the vrms are good enough on every b550/x570 so look for other features like m.2 support, wifi 6, dual bios, aesthetics, memory overclocking, all that. iirc the b550 master actually has better vrms than the x570 master (think its the monster 16 phase setup from the xtreme) but at that point its "will my vrms be too cold" territory lol

The aorus master has the better vrm, it uses the same vrm as the x570 aorus extreme which is a 700 dollar board, and that is an XDPE132G5C and 14 TDA21472's and is better than the vrm on the tomahawk.

However, the tomahawk does come with the x570 chipset meaning pcie gen 4 across the whole board, and the lanes configuration on the aorus master is a little odd.

Over all though they're both more than enough for any cpu in terms of vrm.

prefer the x570 because of the overclocking

Both boards allow that.
