3080 8 pin power question

IC4

So I’ve seen some pictures online of some aib cards that in place of a 12 pin I see 3 8 pin connectors? Is this seriously going to be the norm? Almost feel like I wasted my money on cablemod cables because they only supply 2 8 pin connectors so I’d have to use one of my seasonic supplied ones (that came with psu). Just wondering if there will be any 2 8 pin and a 6 pin or just two 8 pin 3080s. If anyone knows that’d be great.

If you can "waste" $1400+ on a 3080, you should be able to "waste" another $20-30 on an extra cable from cablemod. You can buy cables separately, not just as a whole kit.

Quit your whining.

Someone will eventually create a converter for this.

Or the OEM partner will supply such converters inside the package.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

When I was looking at the other manufacturer board images, there were some models with 2x 8-pin on them. I think the Asus TUF was one, but you'd have to check each candidate out. The 3rd power connector wont be needed outside of the high end cards that allow more extreme overclocking.

Select Custom PSU Cables  or PSU Cables  (start with custom, then try psu cables if 1st fails). Hit Next.

Select your psu brand , then select model . Ignore the case question. Hit next/Continue

I guess cablemod will already be hard at work to get the 12-pin cables on sale.

Back to your question: Afaik several partner models of the cards use normal 6+2 type connectors.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

I appreciate the informative post, I really was not aware of this. And I know it sounds weird I wasn’t trying to “whine” it’s just obnoxious I gotta pay 20 dollar shipping for one cable. In the grand scheme when buying a 800+ video card that shouldn’t be a big deal but it’s the principle of the matter.
