Corsair SF750 - 3900X + RTX 3090 + Overclocking

Mark-McG

Hi all.

I currently have a custom water cooled rig with a Corsair SF600. I have gone with an SFX as space is at a bit of a premium with all the tubing and cable management.

with the impending release of the new cards I would like an RTX3090.

I have two questions

1) Is the SF750 likely to be enough juice (I think this is the most powerful SFX unit). I want to power the rig and Overclock.

2) assuming it is, can I swap the modular cables only at the PSU side or will the cables be different gauge wire?

For reference this is my full build:

CPU: Ryzen 9 3900X

MoBo: ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Impact X570

GPU: NVIDIA RTX2080 Super (to be swapped for 3090)

RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengance Pro RGB DDR4 LPX 3600

Storage: 500GB Corsair MP600 SSD

Case: Corsair Crystal 280x

Water cooling:

Corsair Hydro X CPU Block

Corsair Hydro X GPU Block

Corsair Hydro X XD5 Pump

2x Corsair Hydro X Slim 240mm fans

6x Corsair QL120 RGB Fans

thanks, Mark

Yes, especially since you're likely not going to get your 3900X to pull more than ~200W anyway.

To my knowledge, the cables are interchangeable between all SF series PSUs, as well as some RM units iirc.

Thank you! Do you think then that even the 600 would be enough or should I definitely make the jump to 750?

So basically keeping your current SF600?

I and all of us would have to wait for actual testing to be done on these new cards, but if I had to guess, as long as you're not hammering the overclocks, you won't need a PSU upgrade. I've seen custom 3090s with dual 8-pins, so you shouldn't be able to get more than ~375W out of those anyway.

Wait for ampere to come out and check the power consumption for the 3090 and then check.

But for the most part I'd say a 600w unit should be enough.
