Whatever that was plugged into before, looks like it ripped the Male pins right out. There shouldn't be pins sticking out of the connector.

Either that or it's an adapter of some sort - something like HD audio to AC97. Though if it's just a front panel cable from the case I kind of doubt it.

I think I understand where the front panel connectors go but where dose this plug go?

Like the other guys said, that's most likely something that came loose from the case (front IO?) ;
If the case is brand new and was already like this when you opened the box, RMA it, the warranty should cover you ;

EDIT: @minibois's probably found what that thing is => don't RMA the case

Either the pins are pulled out of a motherboard header or an extension cable.

What case and motherboard are you using?
From the looks of it, this might just be a sort of front panel header extension cable, in case the includes connector is not the right setup.

EDIT: you might be using the NZXT H510 and seeing as this is posted on last Tuesday, it is probably this:

Check your motherboard manual. If the front panel header uses this standard (which it probably does), just plug in the cable that is already in the case.

Front Panel Header for Intel® Desktop Boards

If it's something other than the setup above, you use the cable in your picture to wire it differently.
