Can a Noctua NH-D15 fit in the Phanteks P300?

Go to solution Solved by Chris Pratt,

D15 is complete and total overkill for a 3600. Save your money and get U12S, which is more than sufficient, and will definitely fit.

Hello guys I hope all of you doing ok in the pandemic,

I'm trying to buy a CPU cooler for less than 60 euros.

The used Noctua NH-D15 goes for around this price range from amazon.fr, the problem is the space that I'm not too sure about.

I'm pretty much open for all of your suggestions :D

The NH-D15 with the fans with 165mm tall, while the P300 can take coolers up to 160mm tall.

Something like an NH-D14 or Dark Rock 4 (not Pro) would fit.

Or of course you can go for a larger case that does fit the cooler.

Nah just get a D15S, or remove the front fan from the D15 to make it a D15S without the offset. Both are 160mm height, the extra 5mm on the D15 is from the front fan, and depending on the height of the RAM it could be taller than that.

Both fans of the D15 would pose a problem though:

Gotta move the middle one to the left (in this image) and move both fans down (if that's even possible for the right fan above the RAM).

But a D15S would be a better idea indeed.

Beanboozling since both use the same heatsink, the S just has an offset to one side for better PCIe slot clearance:

Ratios and everything on the diagrams look the same too 🤔

But the S is usually cheaper and is 100% not taller than 160mm, so yeah better to just snag the S and be sure.

I totally agree with you but the U12S is about 60 euros too, the D15 while yes it has some clearness issues that i have to figure out but in used condition it is the same price as the U12S.

Already got the case and not planing to buy another tho the Dark Rock 4 seems like a good option.

So try to find a U12S used to make it even cheaper. Even at the same price, you're still getting new vs used. A cooler is a pretty safe thing to buy used overall, but you could still have the fan die sooner on you or there might be other damage to the heatsink or such.

Noctua fans have a reputation to last, I'm guessing its the safest bet to buy used.
