heyy so i need help i have a quite old laptop

Lenovo g50-80 80E5

and it has a ddr3 4 gb ram but its not enough to play gta5 which it runs pretty decent at lowest details

but the ram is not enough and it runs out of ram and crashes

i was hoping to know if i can just pop another ram stick in its second ram slot

can i just put a ddr4 2666 mhz 8 gb ram in the second slot.

https://www.flipkart.com/crucial-basic-ddr4-8-gb-single-channel-laptop-2666mhz-sodimm-204-pin-memory/p/itm8cd7586f4610e?pid=RAMFSZPEBHEEVWHP&lid=LSTRAMFSZPEBHEEVWHPK1JMHT&marketplace=FLIPKART&srno=s_1_3&otracker=search&otracker1=search&fm=SEARCH&iid=3ae34722-3640-4e4a-9f1b-535195dae540.RAMFSZPEBHEEVWHP.SEARCH&ppt=sp&ppn=sp&ssid=ore4zihphs0000001597772646424&qH=10754e719d737158

wanted to know if 2 ddr3 and ddr4 are compatible with each other

and if my laptop can support ddr4 if i just replace the old ram stick with the new one

there is a attachment withall my laptop data attached if that helps

thnx anyway

Download CPU-Z, navigate to the memory and SPD tabs.

Buy a DDR3 module that matches as closely as possible the numbers that you find there to ensure compatibility.

Post screen shots if you need help.

You will need a ddr3 stick as ddr3 and 4 are not compatible. Mixing capacities and speeds is not recommended but should work, both sticks will run at the speed of the slower stick though.

Good luck!

So i can't just replace it and use a ddr4 stick?

No. DDR3 and DDR4 are not compatible. A system that uses DDR3 memory can't use DDR4 memory. They are not interchangeable.

No, the imc can't work with it and you sadly can't even install them in the first place.

Here's a comparison with some images:

https://www.atpinc.com/blog/ddr4-vs-ddr3-differences-advantages

https://laptoping.com/ddr3-and-ddr4-laptop-memory-compatible-no.html

E.g. a DDR3 SO-DIMM module has 204 pins, while a DDR4 SO-DIMM module has 260 pins. The notch is also in a different place to prevent you from inserting the wrong RAM by accident. They also use different voltages.

This page lists some memory modules that are compatible with your machine:

Yes, it has the correct specs.

You may want to use CPU-Z to check what type of memory modules you have (manufacturer). Sometimes, mixing memory from different manufacturers can lead to issues, but in general it should work.
