Hey man, first of all thank you so much for all your input. You obviously know your stuff. Let me run this by you though. I am running 32 gb of ddr3 ram.  So i have been playing Iracing for about 1 month now. Iracing will legit run on a potato. I got it running on low settings on a Thinkpad with a dual core i5 and onboard intel graphics. It's kind of known within the community that the "minimum specs" are a joke. With that being said, on a single 1080 screen with all settings maxed out i am getting 120-150 fps at any given time during a live race. Any idea if that makes a difference in your answer, or does it remain the same? Lastly, what do you think about a single high quality ultrawide (similar FOV way less work on the gpu) it seems to be catching on within the sim community, obviously everyone has a preference. Thanks again.

AFAIK the ability for a graphics card to send multi-screen output of a single instance can be very hard if the game is not doing it well. IK that iRacing has done it well, but then you still have to deal with the configurations within windows, your Nvidia control panel, and within iRacing, all of which can be a serious headache before you realize that your bezels don't line up with your car's A-pillar and it blocks even more of your screen.

If you are ok with a little under 60 fps with lower settings (IDK what the normal graphical settings options in iRacing are, I have never played it, touched, it, and have only seen a couple live streams. So IDK if "max" means ultra or high. Either way you will need to turn it down pretty much everything but AA and shaders. For some reason every livestream I saw that day everyone was capped at 88 fps, it was weird. It was an official iRacing event that youtubers like SuperGT and Jimmy Broadbent were in.) you could probably get away with a 6GB 1060 on an ultrawide just fine with those decreased options. But if you want more than 60 fps

Ultrawides are good bc it is less cables, a lot less setup, you should be able to spread your HUD out more, and your higher FOV will actually look natural.

If you do want to go with a 3 (1080p) monitor setup, you need a new GPU, and other stuff, it will be expensive, bc you should also consider buying the Asus ROG ABF01 which Anthony reviewed here three months ago, but it is over $100 iirc.

A curved (if you were planning on having the three monitors in a curve around you then you should be fine, if your desk can't do then u will have problems either way) ultrawide is better than a multi monitor setup bc you will get higher FPS bc there is less overhead from the GPU/CPU (I don't actually know, either it is taken care of by the Nvidia drivers and the GPU, or taken care of by Windows on the CPU, idk) having to calculate which part of the scene goes on which monitor. Drawing triangles and textures onto the pixels of three seperate screens could be really hard on a 1060. That means your statement on "similar FOV less work on the GPU" is 100% correct.

One other big problem with ultrawides, in order to get anything like the combined resolution of a two or three monitor setup, you will have to pay A LOT. An ultra wide that could come close to a 3 monitor setup would have to be 16:5 or 32:9. (3840x1080 (32:9) is just two 1080p screens, but some of them actually allow you to have them split down the middle like two 1080p monitors without one of the side bezels, which is nice if you also have something like a console on the side). At that point we are talking about a starting point of $800 for a single ultrawide curved monitor. They also start at like 120Hz, but you won't hit that with a 1060-6GB. You need a GPU upgrade tho if u are going this far (for this much $), and I would recommend a used 1070ti, bc the extra clock speeds and 2GB more VRAM will help a lot. Used prices afaik are around $375 USD and up. This means spending a lot of time on ebay and craigslist.

Or for less money you could overclock your CPU and buy a VR headset and have even more fun in iRacing. Availability of VR headsets might be low, but you can get a Oculus Rift S, a really good budget headset for $400-500. You prob don't need to even upgrade your graphics card, just use MSI Afterburner to overclock it a little bit and if your CPU and case cooling is good overclock your CPU too. You bought a K processor, it could become obsolete very soon, so why not make it relevant for a little bit longer with an overclock. Just remember to download a HW monitoring and temp monitoring program like HWInfo too.

Remember, none of this comes from any of my experience. I have never owned anything above a 1070, that 1070 was hooked up to a single monitor and a HTC Vive, and I have never played with ultrawides, more than 2 screen setups, dual or more screen gaming, or iRacing. If you do follow through with my advice, you are then on your own when it comes to configuring everything correctly bc I have no fucking clue.

I hope my over 1 hour of research for you is useful. Please put a react on all of the posts I have here and make sure to mark either this post or the one you quoted as "the answer."

Hey everyone, i want to know what everyone thinks of my gtx 1060 6gb running triple 1080p screens for Iracing. Do you think it's doable with decent settings? I don't want to have to run everything on low. My CPU is a 4670k, nothing is overclocked. This pc is legit just an iracing machine, and sometimes an internet browser. (the entire build only set me back 300 bucks) so i don't think i did too bad. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Fairly new on the pc gaming side of things. Thanks a lot!

1060 is 6gb or 3gb no 8gb variant

What exact model gpu do you have? There is no 8gb version of the gtx 1060.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

3 monitors would need some serious gpu power. I don't think 1060 will cut it.

Go for 2060 or RX5600.

Not happening with a 1060. For 3x 1080p at non-poop settings, I'd probably be looking at the 1080 Ti, 5700 XT or 2070S. Or, more likely, just waiting to see what the 3070/3060 will bring to the table.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

Based on the recommended specs, I don’t think you will be able to do 3 monitors on non-low settings. Your gpu (and I’m assuming ram) are in the medium recommended and your cpu is low recommended. You should be able to get low FPS on lowest settings with 3 monitors, but I wouldn’t expect much better than that.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

I'm glad you are doing iRacing, I don't follow it by I am a huge fan of sim racers. The mid range specs state a minimum of a 6GB 1060. That means most tracks on medium settings (idk what resolution) at playable frame rates, so prob 60 fps. But that is a single monitor. Even on low settings a triple monitor setup requires at least 8GB of VRAM. But then you would hit a CPU bottleneck. In order to upgrade to a triple 1080p monitors, medium setting and other things, you would likely need a whole new system, with at least 6-8 cores, 32 GB of RAM, and a 8GB card. (A 8GB card would look like ass on dirt when using triple monitors as you need to run your shaders on high when racing on dirt) A 1080ti could probably do it on medium with some high settings.

https://www.iracing.com/membership/system-requirements/ <-- You can even download a tool here to see how compatible you are here.

I know 1080p isn't that big of a deal, but we are also dealing with a large FOV which means more textures and polys are load simultaneously.

Trust me you need a whole system upgrade to do triple monitors. I would recommend a 10600K (I would normally recommend a 3600 but in terms of pure gaming performance the 10600K is superior), an easy and safe overclock, 16-32 GB of RAM (IDK how much iRacing is dependent on RAM, but if you want to save money I would recommend 16GB of DDR4-3000 as the minimum), and then wait for RTX 3000 and Big Navi and buy a new 8GB card.

Trust me and 8GB RTX 3000 card would almost certainly perform better in triple monitors than a 11GB 1080ti. Like you may need to turn down textures a little bit, but your framerates will be really good.

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

Current setup: Ryzen 5 3600, MSI MPG B550, 2x8GB DDR4-3200, RX 5600 XT (+120 core, +320 Mem), 1TB WD SN550, 1TB Team MP33, 2TB Seagate Barracuda Compute, 500GB Samsung 860 Evo, Corsair 4000D Airflow, 650W 80+ Gold. Razer peripherals.

Also have a Alienware Alpha R1: i3-4170T, GTX 860M (≈ a 750 Ti). 2x4GB DDR3L-1600, Crucial MX500

Imma be honest the only reason I did this much is bc I am a huge fan of sim racing. I normally would have never replied since my experience with multi-monitor setups is pretty weak.

I ended up getting a 34inch ultrawide curved from LG. It's 21x9 so its not as extreme as the samsung odyssey or anything like that but it's definitely a huge improvement from my older standard single i was using. I was looking at the Samsung at Best Buy, i just cant stomach 1100 bucks for a monitor right now with the world being the way it is. But, i think that's definitely the way i will go. It's freaking amazing how immersive it is, i couldn't believe what i was looking at. With something like that you can basically achieve the same fov as triples without the hassle of setting it up. Seems like the way to go.

Well yes, but actually no. Maybe because you were in person it was $1100, but you can get something better online for $800. Yes you get a higher FOV, but the best FOV you can get right now out of a single monitor on the market is equal to two 1080p screens without bezels.

Also what is your average FPS on what settings (track+road, not dirt), just curious?

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

I know I'm a little late to the party but for sim racing only, i only run iRacing, i would recommend triple 1080p monitors over everything else unless you plan to upgrade to a new rtx 3080 or something along those lines to push triple 1440p panels.  3 good 1080p 144hz 27 inch Monitors can be had for like $150 each and getting 3 panels for $400-600 can be done easily. I set my friend up with 3 asus 27s 144hz as he already had 1. We got one refurbished for $120 and paid 160 for the other new. He runs a 7700k/5700xt and iracing he is typically around 200fps, dips around 140 with alot of cars/night race/ settings on high. He now runs everything on high with the exception of a couple settings on medium and locks his rate at 144, it stays there. The 7700k has a good OC with a 280mm AIO. I was running a 5700xt and went to a 1080ti then 2080ti. I run triple 27 inch 240 hz 1080p monitors, paid $800 for all 3 last black friday. With a 9700k/2080ti i can lock em at 240, all settings high which was my goal. The cpu usage is only like 30 percent or so. Its low. The gpu with triples is maxed. With 1080ti i paid $300 for i was getting average of 240fps but sometimes seeing 150fps or so depending on track/car numbers and settings all on high. When people went unloading 2080ti's, i snagged a FE for $450 and limit fps to 240 in game, it never ever goes lower. I tried without setting the 240hz limit and it was 300-400 high settings with the lowest fps i saw was high 200s.

TLDR; your cpu is fine, you may get more fps with a good overclock so a good cooler is cheap, get one, mainly get a good gpu, 1080tis are cheap nowadays, get a good one and 3 1080p 144+hz monitors and have a killer setup. I had my triples mounted on a desk with $20 monitor arms prior to buying my 8020 rig and it was solid. I'd find a decent monitor stand and 3 displays. Triples are the best unless you like VR but 1 of the 2 is the only way to go. I had the 49 inch superultrawide prior to getting the triples. It cost more than all 3 of my 240hz panels and the experience was not comparable. I sold that suw, next upgrade will be 1440p or 4k monitors along with a monster gpu but not for a year or 2, i love my setup.

So you're saying

1) No, the 1060 6gb not good enough for triples

2) get a 1080 TI

3) get a better cooler

4) get trips

5) party

is that about right

I know this is an old thread but I am running the 1060 6gb with 24" 1080 triples and it runs just fine with Medium to High settings. getting a solid 84FPS ( i have it capped there) but I can get up over 100FPS without capping it. i5-4690, 16gb ram, GTX 1060 6gb.

Any reason whenever I see semi-pro iracing footage it is always capped somewhere between 80-90 FPS? Does the game have issues with like flickering or something over that FPS? Like I know that in games based on the creation engine (Bethesda) an FPS over 60 can mess with physics, and in Portal it completely breaks the game over 900 FPS.

I do triple 1080p with a 1060 6gb on Iracing with only 8gb of ddr3 2800mhz ram and an Intel core i5 4650k. Yes I run mid/low setting but it's doable, I was doing triple with gtx780 before that.
