Upgrading to Windows 10

A fresh install of Windows is always preferred over an "upgrade". So what I would do is cancel the upgrade, and install Windows 10 fresh, then activate Windows 10 with your existing Windows 7 product key.

Do a clean install, never do the upgrade.

You can take your windows 7 key and still activate windows 10 with it.

Use this site to create a USB flash drive that you can boot from to start the fresh installation.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Keep in mind that your laptop may not work properly with Windows 10 since not all devices have compatible drivers. So you should have a plan for reverting back to Windows 7 if you run into problems.

There should be a key printed on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop. If there is not, there is software that you can use to find out what your key is from within Windows.

There are plenty of free keyfinders on the internet, search it up.

Don't do it, it's a trap!

Depending on how old your laptop is, Win10 may run worse than win7.

There are other options. Some form of *nix, stay with Win7, move up to Win 8.1...

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.
