Best graphics card for a phenom II x4 965 be.

Hello all..  Like the title says.

I'm not a nub at tech but there is so many mixed opinions on this topic it seems and I cant get a straight answer.. I would like to know first off if a gtx 760 would bottleneck a stock clocked 965 be.. and I mean a TRUE bottleneck not a neckbeard bottleneck which is what I call bullshit of the over-used term bottleneck these days.. As in if you are a neckbeard and you think everything is a bottleneck unless you have an I5 or an I7 your biased opinion is not wanted here.

Would it still give more performance than a gtx 660 or... is the 660 the max I can go on a stock phenom 965 be.. I might upgrade to the 8350 in the future so I would want to know if it would create a true bottleneck or if it could hold me over untill I get an 8350. which could be later this year.     and no I dont want any amd cards.  And would like to try an avoid overclocking.

thanks.

I would suggest a GTX 760 max, as on the AMD side a 7950 is bottlenecked by the quad core phenoms.

Spoiler

GTX 660,

my first pc that has an HD7850 was in the edge of bottlenecked by the FX4100 CPU. and Phenom II X4 has similar performance as the FX-41xx
i think you get my point.

Sorry but.. the HD7850 does not bottleneck with the phenom at all. possibly your 4100 but the 7850 is less than a gtx 650 ti boost which is very common with the phenom and doesn't bottleneck it at all.  thanks anyway.

As long as the gtx 760 doesn't bottleneck in the true sense where its not playable then im alright with that.. meaning i hope it will give more performance than a 660 would..  Would be playing some cpu intensive games and some not so much as well as general use.

can anyone comfirm this?    thanks.

Bottleneck in cpu intensive games may well be unplayable depending on what you call a cpu intensive game and what your opinion of unplayable is. For gpu intensive games it will be alright.

Curious though why would you rather not overclock?

Games such as an mmo and high population servers in them.. other then some new titles possibly... battlefield 4 assassins creed 4.. blah blah..   and I dont have the best luck when it comes to things like overclocking.

and also unplayable as in no visual lag... or hopefully lag spikes..

MMO's especially something like WoW that is running an old engine that has been bled for every last bit they can will most likely be unplayable in a 25m setting (actually fairly confident it will be or barely playable). Most more modern mmo's don't front load so heavily on the cpu so should be reasonable. Without actually having the kit and benching it though I really can't give you a solid answer I have to base my guessing off my playing with A8's and the phenom's relative ipc.

For the most part it should fair reasonably well I would imagine.

Not to be a fan boy here but if you do like your mmo's even an fx 8350 won't do much for you in regards to their performance.

my bottlenecking part is in a game of Battlefield 3 multiplayer. CPU demanding game btw.

but i had it OC'ed to 4.2Ghz and the bottleneck is gone.

bf4 beach benchmark @2ghz and i was still gpu bound, was only a 6670 but its the same with my 7770 and i bet it'd be the same with a 780ti.

you'll only become cpu limited with ultra settings at 2560x1600 MAYBE, even then your still looking at runnign a 780ti or something in crossfire.

too many talk about bottlenecking without knowing how it works, X card wil not be bottlenecked by Y cpu, it completely depends ont he game and settings

That is a well coded game though, its titles like WoW that are CPU bottlenecked even on socket 2011 @ 4.5ghz + that the pinch will be felt most. Realistically it depends on title and expectations.

i think you get my point.

Phenom 2 actually has higher performance than a 4100 or the 6 core fx chips, I had a 965 @4.3 with a 7970 and it didn't bottleneck.

i agree, but 2 games dont outweight the other 98.

the only modern game ive come across that is badly threaded is thief, then again that could be because its a new game, even world of tanks doesnt max out 2 threads, minecraft uses 4 threads evenly (as does skyrim and gta4 etc).

games like swtor are badly threaded but those games will usually get 140fps with a 6770 so it doesnt matter,

When i used to have a 965be and a gtx660 , the 965be @stock bottleknecked the 660 a little bit , when i OC'ed to 3.8ghz i got an extra 10 FPS in every game but 1 , maybe invest in a Hyper 212 and push for 4ghz ? that should get rid of any bottlenecks :D

that CPU bottlenecks even a GTX660, so get a 760 or something, nothing higher, even 760 is pushing it.
