Is Xeon W3540 a good CPU for streaming?

Ik that More cores means more good, but I was wondering is it good enough for streaming along with a 750 Ti and 8 gigs RAM (Basically a modified HP Z400). I'm thinking Streaming Minecraft using OBS with no shaders

It should be sufficient (without ray-tracing on, LOL), although you may want to upgrade to 16/32GB of RAM since other tasks such as the operating system, background tasks/processes, and other programs you may have open such as a web-browser will definitely take up some RAM.

It's a 4 core 8 thread cpu clocked at around 3 ghz. Not great.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic, although the Intel Xeon W3540 is an excellent choice for a streaming CPU, especially for such light games such as Minecraft. It is a bit older server-grade hardware, although running on it's 4 cores and 8 threads at 2.93GHz base and up to 3.20GHz on turbo it's still really good for a desktop computer even by today's modern standards.

Hope this information post was helpful  ?,

720p30 maybe if you use x264, dont expect anything great out of it. Also I assume you're using this to capture screen from another PC since even vanilla Minecraft singleplayer will be a significant load on the CPU.

Yeah it's a 1st gen Intel core series, there's no AVX instruction set support making it significantly worse than 2nd gen even.

It's really not. 45nm process, below 4Ghz, it's gonna be pretty bleh compared to even modern i3s. These chips don't perform well in anything single-core intensive till they're at 4.2Ghz or above, and Minecraft is a single core intensive workload.

It's an LGA1366 CPU, does your board not support the hexacores? You can get an X5670 for not much, and it's pretty much the same clocks, while being on a better 32nm process and sporting 6c/12t.
