does any monitor work for a custom build or do you have to look at any specs?

any modern monitor will work with any modern system, because they'll almost all use displayport by this point. If you're going back in time a good few years, you'll have to make sure the monitor has the right ports to work with the graphics card. However, in the old days, most 144Hz monitors that had DVI and HDMI could only do high refresh rate over DVI so keep that in mind for the earliest gaming monitors.

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

 

How many watts do I need? ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explained, group reg is bad

Any monitor will 'work'.

 

However if ur after any type of quality u need to know what to look for. Check pinned threads as they usually address common questions relating to the topic they are in.
