Borderlands 3 + 2080 ti + Char Select Menu = 100% GPU usage.

Anyone know why Borderlands 3 requires 100% GPU usage in the Character Select menu?

 

The graphics are not that impressive in the menu, and they appear quite static.  So I was very surprised to see 100% usage when simply choosing a character, it isn't even a matter of moving between screens.

It is simply sitting on the Menu with the "Continue" button and a character model on screen. Yeah there are moving parts, but 100% GPU on a 2080ti just in the menu?

 

That seems excessive no?

the gpu usage % is measuring the amount of time the gpu is busy and not really the actual strain its under

Can be just a menu quirk. I remember Star Craft 2 menu was FPS unlocked for some reason on would drive my 9800XT fans to 100% all the time due to 100% load

bl3 menus is less intensive than in-game, but if u don't cap ur frams then ya 100% usage can happen.

 

Edit: just fired it up and seems like the latest patches made the game run worse than i remember (since dlc2), yikes.

I've played a few games where the menu will pin the GPU at 95+ percent. As long as performance when not in the menu is good I wouldn't worry about it. Definitely a quirk, but not much more.
