I currently have a Gigabyte AB350-Gaming 3 paired with my Ryzen 5 1600x. In preparation for getting a new cpu, i just went down to my local micro center and got an Asus ROG STRIX B450-F Gaming, as per the micro center employee's recommendation. I also went and upgraded my gpu and ram, and currently have it booted on my gigabyte board just to make sure everything took. What steps do i need to take to make this motherboard swap as easy and painless as possible?

That board isn't great in terms of price / perf compared to a B450 Tomahawk MAX but it will do if it's your only option. I would recommend doing a full windows reinstall because you are changing chipsets.

so i HAVE to reinstall windows? or can i just uninstall all of my gigabyte utilities, and when booted up on the asus, uninstall everything gigabyte? i have muliple terabytes of data, with no real way to back it up while wiping and reinstalling

Just as an aside, consider an external HDD to back up important files. You never know when an HDD or storage controller (in the case of RAID) is gonna up and die on ya.

You don't have to reinstall windows, but it is highly recommended.

Yeah, unless you want Windows to be an unstable mess. It needs to install a lot of low level drivers that interface with the chipset, so for best results reinstall.

Or just delete the fucking drivers lmao.

It's not as straightforward as that. For general stability, it's best to reinstall. I've had problems before.

ok, is this something i can just leave all my data on my drive for, and JUST reinstall windows? or is it best to format the drive? been years since in reinstalled windows.
