Gigabyte 5700 XT - RMA - Help much appreciated!

TristanD79

So I've just received a RMA code from gigabyte for my 5700 XT, but I'm wondering what is the outcome of me sending back my defunct card? I bought it from NEWEGG within a year and they said to contact the manufacturer despite Gigabyte saying that if it's within a year to contact the seller. It's all very confusing, but it looks like Gigabyte are going to help me out anyway as they sent me the code and want me to send them the card.

But back to my question, what will the outcome be? A refund? A new card?

Any other helpful info on RMAs / the process would be appreciated

Most of the time RMAs result in them sending you a new one when they receive the broken one.

What happens if the problem is likely to be in all cards.

So the problem I've been having is my computer will black-screen making a high pitch audible whine, disabling all input to the computer and requiring a manual reset. This has occurred mostly during gaming. N.b. Game settings are set on max.

I think its a cooling issue, I have adjusted the fans through AMD software to compensate but it then runs very loudly like I'm on an aircraft carrier deck. And I only did this for 2 days before I swapped it back out.

Thoughts?

What are you temps before you black screen? What are your full system specs? Do you have any overclocks?

Temps were in the 80s if I recall (Prior to adjusting the fan curve)

No overclocks

If it was only in the 80s, I doubt it was temperature caused. Sounds like a faulty part, I’m guessing it’s the gpu. If when you get the new one, it is still there, some other part is bad.

Well I've got my 1060 6GB and I've swapped it back in and its been a month of smooth sailing, as opposed to the week of carnage with the 5700 XT so I assume that correlation and causation are one and the same in this case.

I know it's been almost a year since this thread ended but I was wondering what your success was with the Gigabyte RMA. I just got my code to send my 1650 in but based on reviews of their service that I have seen I'm not sure if I want to risk sending it in and not getting it back or if I just want to pay for the repairs out of pocket and ensure that I actually have a GPU.
