AMD drivers are crap?

Trying to run anything above 60hz gives the screen terrible flickering. I am running a R9 290. This does not happen on my 1080ti. I know my cable is good as I am using it now on my 1080ti at 165hz at 1440P. The R9 is capable of 1440P at 144hz. I am left to believe that this is a driver problem which is very unfortunate.

Temps? The card isn't really the best for 1440p 144hz though.

Is that a free sync panel? i've heard that it happens sometimes with that. Try disabling free sync if it is and if its not then I would have to assume its a driver issue/game issue/ or something wrong with the card (less likely?).

It was a fresh Windows Install no need to do that

Well windows automatically installs drivers. 

They're usually old. So yes. Ddu the drivers.

It didn't with my card. I checked it and no GPU was present in settings. It was just their basic video adapter thing it uses.

If you haven't changed the display settings from what Windows uses by default, no it shouldn't be.

Last time I saw flickering issues was with my HD7970 GHz and GTX 970, and it was due to a bad cable that was also not plugged in properly.

A gsync panel or a gsync compatible monitor? AKA if its free sync see if that's turned on if it is then see if it occurs when its off. If its not on and or not a freesync monitor then I wouldn't assume its the issue.

It wont but its not going to do anything as the drivers I installed were fresh but ok....

Have you tried multiple input using the same cable?

 

Or tested a secondary cable?

Test a secondary cable if you have one. 

 

Check if 120hz works fine. 

 

Might just be a bad connection with the port. Unlikely to be related to the driver, as that wouldnt manifest itself in another way.

I don't have one that will do 1440 at 120+ hz.

 

 

I now ran into a different problem unrelated to this.

 

Windows decided to delete my network driver and now on my main system  explorer doesn't want to see my Flash Drive even though it shows up just fine in device manager. I even reformatted it and it says its a healthy primary partition... Its just one thing after another. I been at this for hours setting up my old system to work.

 

I am now very tired and will deal with this crap later

You can set custom resolution and refreshrate. 

 

Or if you are reffering to the cable, well not sure what else to suggest.

That could just be it has NO drive letter in Windows right now, but can be seen otherwise.
Go o disk management and see if your Flash drive is in there (assign it a letter)

Do you have enhanced sync turned on in the Radeon settings? Or anti lag? 
I turn all that shit off since it does more bad then good for me
