Hello everyone, i need your advise here.

So I'm lookin to build a workstation for general content creation, like anime figures, 3d figures, some gaming, simulation etc...

Programs that'll be used are photoshop, blender, Premier pro, Adobe after effects, games like fortnite, league of legends, DOTA, pubg.

now I have multiple options to choose from, I'm on a budget and will be buying everything second hand.

Options :

1- i7 2600k, 32gb ddr3 ram 1333mhz, Samsung ssd, 4tb hdd, gtx 960 4gb ,650w ez cool psu. total (150$)

2- i7 3770k, 32gb ddr3 ram 1333mhz, Samsung ssd, 4tb hdd, gtx 960 4gb, 650w ez cool psu. total (150$)

3- i5 6600k, 16gb ddr4 ram 2400mhz, Samsung ssd, 4tb hdd, gtx 960 4gb, 650w ez cool psu. total (150 $)

So which rig do you guys choose? Any changes that need to be done to the chosen rig?

Thank you!

Is "none of the above" an option? Out of the options, I'd go with #3, but none of these is really going to work for the workload you described.

FWIW, an extra 16GB RAM is never going to be worth a lesser processor and having to go DDR3.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X · Cooler: Artic Liquid Freezer II 280 · Motherboard: MSI MEG X570 Unify · RAM: G.skill Ripjaws V 2x16GB 3600MHz CL16 (2Rx8) · Graphics Card: ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 Ti TUF Gaming · Boot Drive: 500GB WD Black SN750 M.2 NVMe SSD · Game Drive: 2TB Crucial MX500 SATA SSD · PSU: Corsair White RM850x 850W 80+ Gold · Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow · Monitor: MSI Optix MAG342CQR 34” UWQHD 3440x1440 144Hz · Keyboard: Corsair K100 RGB Optical-Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (OPX Switch) · Mouse: Corsair Ironclaw RGB Wireless Gaming Mouse

Option three has more upgrade potential...

FTR - thread title is a bit... shouty.

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

Do you currently use the software you listed on another machine?

The first two are just flat out awful. Option #3 would be workable, but everything is going to be slow.

i'd say the i7 3770k  with 32gb ram beats the i5 6600k with 16gb ram in the applications OP mentioned

he's just comparing with current gen technology.

for $150 for a full system, I don't think you can do better than option 2.

Isn't ddr4 16gb equivalent to 32gb ddr3?

DDR3 is just ridiculous for any real work. If you're talking about running things like Blender, are you kidding me?

You can't build a machine for the software titles you want for so little money...

You might get a decent foundation for £750

This isn't about then vs now... the software was 'lighter' to run, back then.

It's about cheaping out on a build that should cost 10x what OP is (apparently) willing to spend.

When you had no other option, what can you do? Of course running Blender back then is entirely different than running Blender now, as well. If you have a choice between DDR3 and DDR4, you have to have a brain injury to choose DDR3.

if you have a choice between 4 threads and 8 threads for applications that scale very well with number of threads, what do you do?
