Thoughts on upgrade plan

Greetings, I’m looking into upgrading my pre-built desktop, it’s an HP 580-023w. Currently it has an i5 7400, 1060 3gb, 16gb of ram, and a 300w power supply. I’m planning on basically buying an entire new rig piecemeal and using my current desktop as a temporary home for the components due to the motherboard being proprietary and not compatible with many different CPU’s. Right now the exact order of parts I’m considering is a new 650w power supply, then getting a new gpu (I know the current cpu will bottleneck It but With it being a short-term pairing I’m not too concerned as long as it will still run.),  I’m looking into getting either a Used 1080 ti Or a 2070 S. I’ll get the new motherboard and CPU together, I’m looking at the MPG Z490 gaming edge motherboard, and an i5 10600. I’ve also got the noctura NH-U12S as the cpu fan. Does this seem like a good build and path to build it? Any and all thoughts or advice on what I should do would be appreciated. This is my first time opening up a pc and I would love any sound advice.

practice building computers first, use cheap or free machines to get familiar. Don't spend money before knowing what you are doing.

getting real sick of people encouraging people to spend money first THEN learn computers after.

Honestly I wouldn't bother, your PSU isn't very high wattage, and PSUs right now are a horrible purchase due to massively inflated pricing.

Just save up, and buy all of the pieces at once. That way you're getting a more cohesive system.

Don't get MSI motherboards, there are better options out there. I'd also save up for a K/KF i5.

If you're waiting anyway though, you might as well see how 4th gen Ryzen does. It'll open you up to cheaper motherboard options if it proves to be decent.

I'm all for used hardware, just make sure you don't over pay. The 2070S would have to be substantially cheaper than the 3060, as the 3060 will be quite a bit more powerful.

Building a PC really isn't a hard task. It's just plugging a few things in. You don't really need practice. I didn't have any the first time I built my PC, and I watched an ex build one from scratch as well. She has no interest in PCs and even she said most of the things were just common sense if you look at the part and where it goes.

I don't think i'll ever recommend someone pay money for comput....... anything...... with absolutely no knowledge beforehand so.... no real reason to bother quoting me.

if you feel someone should not do free readily available research , then yeah... you do you

Research online via videos and buying things to experiment on are entirely different.

They also come with manuals. Which is basically equivalent to the research.

Those who are closed minded will never grow as a person.
