Ryzen 5 3600 PBO question

I have found what I can get out of my chip with manual overclocking and I wanted to see what it would do when left to sort its self out.

 

But things dont seem to be working as I expected.

 

I was expecting under a single core load to see 4.5Ghz+ but all cores boost to 4.25Ghz and thats it...

 

Is there a PBO setting I need to change or is this just a limitation of my X370 motherboard?

You're expecting too much tbh, before XT CPUs they are known for lack of OC potential for CPU cores.

I do have a 2020 version of the CPU, essentially this is an XT chip as I can get the same all core OC but the individual core OC is not what others get on just a normal R5 3600.

 

Using Precision Boost, No single core will OC more than the others like I am seeing in benchmarks

No, it's not "essentially" an XT Chip. The XT series is a new line of CPUs that they're releasing.

 

You could try turning on AutoOC with the +200Mhz offset, and see if that nets you any change. But Ryzen doesn't have much headroom for OCing in general, and PBO isn't going to give you amazing results regardless. Ontop of that if you lost the silicone lottery + have a bad cooling solution it's going to be even worse.

Same all core OC? XT models are hitting 4.5GHz at around 1.3V, I doubt you'll get that.

 

Remember date doesnt mean everything, yes 2020 version 3600 will beat 2019 version 3600, but it's still the worst bin of Ryzen dies at 2020. It will be worse than X and XT models on average.

 

As for your single core boost not getting much faster than the factory rated 4.2GHz max, it's possible that you're hitting the very same cap. Try +200MHz offset like @Statik suggests but if it doesnt perform better, it's normal.

Ill give it a go and see what happens.

 

But, Yes, I am getting 4.5Ghz @ 1.288v anything more than 4.5 is not stable no matter how many volts I pump into it :(

If you can go that far it makes sense to do multiplier OC instead, PBO currently only supports going 200MHz beyond factory set max clocks.

Indeed, I think this is where I have got something confused with the single core OC.

 

With that I can get 4.4 boost out of it, and thats only 100Mhz off my manual OC.. So I might go with that so at  least the cpu clocks down and is not running at balls to the wall all the time.

Aren't the non-X, X, and XT being available alongside each other?

Doesn't look like AMD is going to discontinue the X, and replace them with the XT.

Assuming silicon from within the last ~6 months, the XT chips would be the better binned ones that is able to run at higher boost with lower voltage.

Exactly. By offering a "guaranteed faster" edition AMD can increase profit compared to having those that would get the XT for even more get the X instead. Of course budget tight buyers will still pick the non X.
