Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX spotted, allegedly on new socket/chipset

Of course, I'd just expect they'd fix this in the next generation as Zen 3 is supposed to come out this year, but it could also be the platform that Zen 3 Thredrippers and Zen 2 Threadrippers with additional memory channels will work on.

I'm just trying to look for a reason for such thing, not saying any of this will happen.

That would actually be awesome, new generation of boards but backwards support so you can go either way. Plus if the boards come out sooner new buyers will already know which are the better boards.

It doesn't but sadly it's also a necessity to actually do it. All current boards are wired to the socket in a way that will only support 4 channels so to do 8 requires new boards with new layout (minor ish) and at that point you might as well update as much as you can while you're at it since you are doing it anyway.

Still rather skeptical though, Threadripper Pro might be a real thing but the rest could also just be made up speculation.

well we also had 8 channel threadripper rumors last year, so there is something to it,

threadripper zen 3 will probably only come next year, around summer would be my guess, the wahy they would do it is to compete with intel's 28 core extreme hedt which has 6 channels and support for rdimms allowing for higher capacity dimms

Optane.

Also get something like primocache and tell it to load up RAM as cache. Or make a linux/BSD VM and set up a ZFS volume that's RAM accelerated. Primocache has the bonus of being quasi-persistent though.

you do know i was joking right?

the only ram cache i have setup is on my server for storing plex transcoding files temporarily. even then they are tempory files.

you shouldn't be storing important data on a ram cache unless you have it backed up somewhere else.
