Help me rim down the amount of HDDs in my system please.

FmPhenom

Currently in my system I have 2x 1.5 tb Seagate cudas for games in my system. I want to eliminate those to a bigger one that is cost effective. They are my game drives and other junk files. What do u guys recommend. It has been YEARS since I purchased internal HDDs. Don't need migration software as I plan on doing clean downloads of all my games. Budget will be around $150 but if you can source me a monster 8tb for around $50 more then of course I'll consider it. Thanks guys for the ones that help.

Amazon, best buy, Newegg, Frys and microcenter I prefer.

PS: Don't reply with some slick shit like GOOGLE is your friend. I rather come here.

THe best value  for hdds is the wd 8tb externls. Like this guy https://www.amazon.com/Elements-Desktop-Hard-Drive-WDBWLG0080HBK-NESN/dp/B07D5V2ZXD/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1KTBRTJA678OC&dchild=1&keywords=8tb+hard+drive&qid=1593960997&sprefix=8tb+%2Caps%2C204&sr=8-6

Then take the case off and put it in your pc.

Some other options are the 8tb barracuda, but those are smr. The best non smr drives re probably the ironwolfs.

Could go 4tb and 6tb as well, but Id personlly go 8tb as the extra space is nice, and they aren't that much more money.

You can use PCPartPicker and sort by price.

The drives in external enclosures generally aren't the same quality.

There may be an SSD solution big enough if you want to spend the money.  2tb SSDs have become mainstream, I understand they can be gotten as large as 8tb though they’re pricey.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

They normally have rebranded wd reds or ultrastars. Lots of different models in there.

ANy sources? It should work just fine for a game drive, and the cost savings is more than enough to make up for the potientally higher failure rate

The Seagate rep here mentioned it.

I'd assume Seagate and WD have similar practices.

Apparently not quite.  The whole drive shingling thing has been in disussions recently.  Both companies had issues but for different reasons and in different ways.  One seems to have caught a lawsuit.

Yes but I think you're referring to something different.

The drives in the enclosures like this wouldn't be subject to vibration, which IIRC was the problem with the other drives.

Trying to cram 2x1.5 tb drives into a 2tb drive might involve dark elven magic.

Just note with a lot of the WD Externals you may have to block a pin on the SATA power port if you shuck 'em. I've shucked a few and all of them required either the 3.3v pin block or a Molex to SATA cable to bypass the said pin, otherwise they get stuck in a reset loop and don't present themselves to the system.
