just moved to a futher room, 1 wall between pc and router (dlink dir859, AC wifi)

currently using a phone as reciever, but somehow got disconnect quite often

what should I get ?

- usb wifi for a few bucks

- ac pcie , asus ac55bt?

- ax pcie , msi herald( for future proof?)

What speeds do you want to have (must be lower or the same as of what you are getting from your ISP)?

Basically anything will work but you really should just run an ethernet cable.

Running an ethernet cable would likely be a huge mess and be a lot more difficult and expensive to implement. If you want something better than WI-FI at a significant distance from your router, then I would recommend looking into powerline ethernet systems which are likely going to be cheaper and definitely much more simple than running an ethernet cable.

ax200 + adaptor?

msi vs gigabyte vs asus?

each being $10~15 more from right to left, are they all the same coz they all use intel ax200?

I just got a cheap no name brand off amaon for 30 bucks. I think the speeds will be the same or similar.

Okay, thanks for the additional information, here is what I would recommend (should be more reliable than WI-FI while being cost effective and not requiring an expensive and difficult cable routing job):

https://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Powerline-TPL-406E-Adapters-TPL-406E2K/dp/B008F537KC/ref=sr_1_26_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=powerline+ethernet+adapter&qid=1593615825&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011%2Cp_n_intended_use_browse-bin%3A9647499011&rnid=9647496011&rps=1&s=pc&sr=1-26-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyRENSUVdWVkQ3UVM3JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDIxMTY5M0pUNlZDSVg0QURSMCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMjI5MTYzNE1GQ0NRMk04QzZLJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYnRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

I use TP-Link networking equipment and haven't had any issues (you may have had a bad model), although the powerline system that I have linked is not from TP-Link. Powerline extenders use your building's electrical wiring to transfer data signals.

I did not necessarily say that powerline is going to be faster than WI-FI since that wouldn't be right (some powerline setups are faster than WI-FI and vice versa), although factoring in the lowered reliability of WI-FI connections especially with interference and obstacles within a given distance, powerline should give you a more reliable connection and especially with that VPN being slower, you shouldn't notice any higher speeds with WI-FI and it may even be lower and less reliable. The distance rating on the powerline system that I have linked is 300 meters or 980 feet, supports 200 MBPS on the speed.

that 200mbit speed is bs, as it has a 100mbit ethernet port, so thats the max you will ever see.

Also while it may be able to handle 300m, your gonna need optimal conditions and will get much reduced speed.

Id say good wifi will be a much better experience than this low end powerline kit.

I have seen some networking gear advertise speeds such as 300 MBPS and only have 100 MBPS networking and some that advertise 1600 MBPS and only have a gigabit network port. Even the well-known companies such as Linksys and Netgear do this for some reason?

Examples:

https://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Wireless-Dual-Band-Anywhere-EA6400/dp/B00D9S36CE/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=linksys+ea6400&qid=1593621333&s=electronics&sr=1-1

If you have bad/old wiring then you likely want to avoid powerline since there will be significant signal reductions, could be that the 200 MBPS is sent through the wall and they have 100 MBPS networking on the other side since likely the signal isn't going to be perfect.

Save your WI-FI bandwidth for devices that absolutely need it such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc. This is a budget powerline ethernet system, although will likely be able to max the speed with a VPN connected as the OP plans to use. If you want to invest in something better, then you may want to look into this:

https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AV1000Mbps-Powerline-WiFi-Extender/dp/B0725LPTZR/ref=sr_1_7?crid=3BDJY9F5RCQPB&dchild=1&keywords=powerline+ethernet+adapter&qid=1593621866&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rnid=2470954011&rps=1&sprefix=powerline+ether&sr=8-7

well the wifi or powerline supports a phy speed of something faster than the wired speed, but with wifi and powerline, you can't hit the rated phy speed(1/2 to 2/3 of phy speed is expected in real world). Not great marketing, but technically correct.

Also OP, look at moca if you have coax, much faster than powerline of wifi.
