What should I do? Upgrade to 8.1 or Stick with 7.

Go to solution Solved by Fadewood,

*Update* I am now on Windows 8.1 Pro, and I can tell you that after installing StartIsBack and all my applications, I am very pleased. Right now everything is lightning fast, and that is due to my new 840 Pro coupled with 8.1.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

Hey guys, I need some opinions! I just got my brand new Samsung 840 Pro 256gb SSD, and I am having a hard time figuring out what to install on it and start over. I have Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, and I want to know if it is worth getting 8.1 and starting fresh rather than sticking with 7.

Things I do with Windows:

  • Photoshop Daily
  • Extensive Use with other Adobe Products.
  • Web Browsing Daily
  • Gaming
  • Rendering in Adobe Products and 3D Software.

Windows 7 has been great for what I do, but I have heard and read that I should upgrade to 8.1, but then there is always the majority of my friends that say "NO! STICK WITH 7, 8.1 IS BAD"

If anybody knows and has facts that 8.1 does improve on the daily things I use my computer for, please let me know.

Thanks.

Upgrade.

7 is losing support that 8.1 is getting.

People have Bias, but 8.1 is the way to go.

(Only if you have the cash. But do it if you can.)

8.1 is pretty much better in every way. The only reason you'd want to stick with 7 is preference.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

I upgraded from 7 to 8.1 last week... Some things just annoyed me too much. Some apps didn't fullscreen properly, but they're mostly things that many people don't use like adobe digital edition. I switched back to 7 after only a few days, but 8.1 is still pretty awesome. Everything is quicker

I am good at computer

I would always go with the newest iteration of an OS because it will have more and growing support

If you don't already have a copy of Windows 8, stay with 7.  No point in paying more money when you don't need to.

All the hate around Windows 8 is bs IMO.  It is Windows 7 plus more.  Sure the metro screen and apps can off put you, but other than that, people don't like it because it isn't Windows 7.  Nuff said.

If you are upgrading then just slap on StartIsBack or Classic Shell and you're set. That's what I did personally.

No need to upgrade yet IMO, until it loses support.

I upgraded from 7 to 8.1 and it felt the same after some minor tweaks. Might as well do it.

windows 7 to 8.1 is kind of a waste of money unless you get it for free which in my case I did ^_^ and just used my old win 7 ultimate on my other rig.

Live your life like a dream.

Windows 8 is NOT bad. It is superior to 7.

I guess I should have made a note somewhere and save it on my gmail to access it so I can paste it in these threads.

Whoever says 8 is bad is a troll or never tried the system. (mostly) Some people might have legitimate reasons, but for the average user, 8 is simply superior.

I completly agree. Having tried w8, i got more fps in some games, but decided to stay with 7 for now, due to some of my design software not being compatible with it yet. When the new versions come out, im 100 percent moving to 8.1 as its just a better, more responsive os.

Some proof on old laptop.

Boot time w8: 38sec to desktop
