Hello, I'm currently looking at buying a evga rtx 2080 super xc hydrocopper or the ftw3 ultra+custom block (the hydrocopper is out of stock) because my gtx 980 just past away. I know the 3000 series gpus are on there way but i dont feel like being gpu less till later this year/early 2021. So out of those models which one would you guys buy? Is the ftw 3 ultra worth the extra money for overclocking purposes and would the 2080 super be a big enough upgrade to warrant from a GTX 980?

The FTW 3  Ultra is a great card, but at the upper price points of the EVGA lineup they are usually just very beefy air coopers your being charged for. And since you already plan on a custom loop, that’s sort of a moot point.

If the FTW3 Ultra has a better VRM solution than my XC Ultra (it might, I’m not 100% sure) you should be able to get more core clock out of it. I can’t get past about 2025 before I hit a power wall with my card. That said, is it worth the extra money? That’s certainly up to you... but I can guarantee a 2080 will be a huge upgrade over a 980. Depending on the game and resolution, you can expect upwards of 50% more FPS easily, CPU dependent as well... if your on first gen Ryzen, or anything from intel before the i7 6000 series (even then, a 6700k, unless overclocked to 4.6 GHz +) would bottleneck a 2080 to some extent. I mean, any CPU shy of a 10900k “will bottleneck a 2080”, but Ryzen first gen or pre 6700k will really be noticeable.

I’d do any of them I can get a block for. All perform within a few FPS.
I prefer fe cards myself though.
And a 2080s is quite far ahead of a 980, vastly superior.

I have a ryzen 9 3950x on a gigabyte Aorus Xtreme and I'm assuming that CPU would be fine for a 2080 super?

Can you do a custom bios on Turing to increase the power limit of the card or is it limited by the duel 8 pins?

That's great to hear!

You will be good to go with that. I don’t know what custom bios’s are available for what cards, but my 2080 XC ultra has dual 6 pin, or is it single 6 and single 8? I don’t remember, but it doesn’t have an abundance of power nor a beefy enough VRM to really push it. That said, not like 2025 is “slow”. And on a full cover block the GPU sits at 48-52c in gaming load. Granted, I have a lot of rad space... but my fans are all very low RPM.

How much radiator space do you have for the gpu? I was planning to allocate a 30mm thick hardware labs 480mm rad to the gpu connected to a 50mm thick hardware labs 360mm that's currently cooling my CPU. If that's not enough I can do duel 480s+ 1 360

Yes. The BIOS that are available for you to flash depend on whether or not your GPU is an "A" or a "non-A" variant.

OCN has the info for both RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Super: https://www.overclock.net/forum/69-nvidia/1706274-official-nvidia-rtx-2080-super-owner-s-club.html

Why do you prefer founder edition cards?

Quality, block availability, smaller pcb.
They all have the same gpu for the last part so they end up being the same to me especially under water.

Its the build in my sig, I have a 45mm 420 and a 60mm 280. I run all noctua fans, and in game load they are all about 750 rpm. GPU is usually high 40's low 50's @ 2025 Mhz, 9900k is usually mid 60's at 5 GHz. That damn 9900k is so hard to cool. My chip isn't a very cool running one unfortunately.
