Idle temps GPU

I know, right? If I watch my GPU at idle, the fan isn't spinning, this is just airflow from the case moving past. The fan only spins when needed apparently.

Ok that's easy enough. Your particular model probably has a 0RPM mode. So under a certain temp (more often than not, 60C), your fans won't spin at all to keep your GPU virtually silent. So once you hit load I'd assume you hit 60C, and your fans just keep it in that ballpark. I assume if you had a curve set up at idle you'd be a lot cooler. That makes sense

So I have an asus rtx 2070 super 8gb, and it's quite cold right now, well for me anyway it's around 17 degrees, and the card is idling at around 48 and 46 degrees, I am wondering if this is normal and not  a cause for concern? I only got this system  months ago so this is my first high end system and just getting used to the things

46 degrees

That's fine. MY GTX 1060 idles at 55 deg, and even under full load doesn't go above 60

Make sure you haven't selected "Prefer Maximum Performance" as the power setting in the Nvidia Control Panel. Otherwise, considering the fans on your card won't turn on up until around 50-60C by default, it's kind of to be expected to have a little higher idle temps.

how can going from 0% - 100% load increase your temp by 5C? That blows my mind?

EDIT: Also OP what are your fans spinning at? My Asus 2080S idles around ~25C (usually a cooler ambient as well), and load never has broken 65C.

Granted, even if your idle is in the 40s, that doesn't matter too much. What really matters is your load temps.

Yeah haha, my fans only spins when it hits 55C, thank you all for your help 😛 right now it's idling at 35c, but after gaming it cools down and remains at around 45c which i assume is perfectly normal, so thanks for your help haha
