Ticking noise when booting into windows

Hello! I just turned on my pc and heard a ticking noise coming from inside the pc. No idea if it was psu or hdd.

 

Also, I have a prebuild wich I have upgraded parts. Like 99% of prebuilts, the psu's are garbage. I was already thinking of upgrading my psu before I heard this since I need a new one to upgrade to a 1660 ti. Anyways, does anybody have any idea what this could be? Should I be concerned about it?

Ticking really regular and kind of rythmic ?
If it is, you should backup your data : And fast. Your HDD is dying. 

This is known as the "tick of death".

It's not really fixable, until you want to spend A LOT of money.

No. Not like that. I doesn't keeps making it constantly. Just randomly happens. Sometimes ticks twice, sometimes once. It rarely happens but I just thought about it and it has been happening before today. I have heard it but I thought it was just me since my house is pretty loud. I regularly test my hdd's health with CrystalDiskInfo and it is always fine.

Nope. its not that loud either. I thought it was on boot only but I got it a couple minutes ago. It rarely happens though.

Still sounds like the HDD is possibly dying, to be safe run CrystalDiskMark to make sure your drive health is okay. Better safe than sorry with your data.

Cause a dying HDD tick does not have to happen all the time, I have a older Seagate barracuda that is showing some early signs of failure, I only hear a tick every once in a while even while actively reading/writing to it but CrystalDiskMark was able to pick up on that.

How is that so? Doesn't diskmark only show speeds?

No it runs a disk health check, that is the primary function of this application. Very handy, works for SSD's as well.

Thats what it did for me. Speeds look pretty bad too lol.

 

Also had 1 click in the middle of benchmark.

Maybe it changed, but there used to be a disk health check. Look around. But a low read write speed is an indicator of a failing drive as well.

No idea though. The pic I just sent is a whole different program (crystaldiskinfo). Saw no disk health check option in diskmark.

 

Edit: Pic had my hdd's serial number wich I have no idea if its sensitive information.

 

But in crystaldiskinfo, it shows everything is good.

Yeah if it says good it "should" be okay, in theory. But with those slow read/writes and a possible ticking noise I would recommend backing up your data and replacing it soon
