M.2 to Thunderbolt?

Go to solution Solved by Kilrah,

TB3 is deeply integrated into the system, even add-on TB3 PCIe cards are manufacturer-specific and require the motherboard to have an additional connector the card plugs in to alongside the PCIe connection. So no, no chance. Would need to replace the mobo with one that has built-in TB3.

Hey guys,

I've done a bit of research but couldn't conclude. I know Linus finds these weird adapter connectors like a PCI-E to M.2, but I was wondering if there is a such thing as a male M.2 connector to female thunderbolt. I think it's plausible unless a regular M.2 on a motherboard doesn't have enough bandwidth to rate at thunderbolt capable.

The scenario is that I have a mini-itx board with 2 m.2 slots, 1 m.2 ssd, and 0 PCI-E slots available since the only x16 slot is used but a graphics card. I would like to use this secondary m.2 slot as a way to plug in my thunderbolt hub.

Just curious,

Thanks

My PC is a fast boyo:

6700K - 32GB - 1080 - 256GB EVO

^^You don't need more info than this right?^^

Think you might be out of luck there. The only pci-e card I've seen (x4 IIRC) even is Asus boards only if I'm not mistaken. So don't think you'll find what you're looking for with an m.2. Why didn't you buy a board with thunderbolt on it if you wanted to use a thunderbolt dock?
