I've been trying to grow my small YouTube Channel (Falcrows, and Falcon) I use Filmora9 for Editing and Photoshop for my Thumbnails. But I've wanted to switch to another Editing Software since Filmora is very limited on Features. I asked my friend if she knows any free alternatives to After Effects and told me about DaVinci Resolve 16. Resolve runned flawlessly on her laptop (since she has a Macbook Air 2018) but my broke self has a Dell Inspiron 3558. Which was probably filled with bloat when I got it. But heres the specs

Core i3 5015U Quad-Core Processor

4GB RAM

500 GB HDD

Intel HD 5500 Graphics

Although I got to download and start the program, but I only got to place in a Text with a Transition. The next day I tried to run it, It won't respond most of the time and is incredibly laggy. Is there a way to solve this?

you're probably out of system memory since you're extremely limited at 4gb... you will likely need to at least upgrade your RAM.

Oh, exactly how much does upgrading to 8GB Cost? and what Module do I need?

I would try and get 16gb to be safe as this is the maximum you are able to support on this CPU according to intels ARK page, but im seeing other info that this model only supports up to 8gb total. This kit would likely perform a well upgrade for you: https://www.newegg.com/crucial-8gb-204-pin-ddr3-so-dimm/p/N82E16820191523?Description=DDR3L&cm_re=DDR3L-_-20-191-523-_-Product or a similar 2x4gb kit of DDR3L memory you can find.

Depends on your footage resolution etc. You need more memory, but honestly no matter what this wont be pleasant on that rig even if using low res proxy cache (optimized media) in resolve during editing.

I know 1st hand since resolve is the primary reason i upgraded my 4c/4t i5 6400 (3.2g) 16gb system just last week (now on 12c/24t and 32gb). Also during final production rendering resolve uses the gpu (at least it always spins up while doing that), im on rtx2060.

Primary season for the upgrade on my end was the laggyness during editing of larger projects (4k, 20 minute edited timeline backed by 5-15 files of total 60-90 minutes of footage).

After upgrade editing is snappy, the editor makes good use of many cores threads available (cpu usage up to 90% at spikes); for output rendering it hovers around 40% but then the gpu kicks in (still, with same gpu, output rendering is about 4 to 8 times faster after the upgrade, depending on the project).

What i found is that the editor really want the threads for thumbnail updatjng during edit, pan, zoom etc; 4c/4t just was hogged completely by that, making the editor cursor lag and "jumpy".

Nope this system cannot run resolve, even with the egpu, the i3 is not enough. here is a website with recommended specs for each resolution of video editing. highly recommend you check out this site as it tells you the type of system you would need to flawlessly edit 1080p and 4k. im surprised to see you disliked filmora. link is :https://www.richardlackey.com/davinci-resolve-system-requirements/ and another great site i suggest you check out is https://filmora.wondershare.com/video/davinci-resolve-system-requirements.html. To tell you the minimum specs, are you going to be editing 1080p or 4k

What the heck? My friend who has a Macbook Air 2018 got this to run flawlessly even though she only has an 8th Gen i5, and 8GB of RAM. She also has an Intel UHD 620

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the Dell Inspiron 3558 only upgrade up to 8GB? or can I just get a stick with more RAM on it

She has a 6 core processor and more RAM than you. Does she edit 1080p? Davinci Resolve is optimized to run better on MacOs and uses less resources on a mac since it was developed for mac first. which version of resolve?

She has Resolve 16, same version as me.

Understandable, My Dad has an Acer Laptop which is exactly the same as the Macbook Air 2018 spec-wise so I can probably just borrow that

like I stated, intels official ARK page lists the ram support up to 16gb, but other stuff was telling me 8gb, which seems to be a limitation that Dell put on it.
