Thunderbolt 3 dock useless on AMD?

lunalang

Hi everyone,

I just went AMD for my new rig. However, I didn't think of my thunderbolt 3 dock. I need it to connect my working laptop to my peripherals and screens. Is there an adaptor that I can use to keep my dock?

Thank you in advance!

No. Thunderbolt 3 does not work with AMD processors. What you can do is replace the Thunderbolt dock with a USB-C dock.

That is false. There is no compatibility issue between AMD CPUs and Thunderbolt. AMD board partners either didn’t want to or weren’t allowed to license thunderbolt for a couple of years, but there are a few boards on the market now, with thunderbolt support.

@lunalang You’re going to have to replace either the dock or the motherboard. If you just bought the motherboard, see if the retailer will swap it out for you.

Love how you tried to win on a technicality but in the end you just repeated what I said.

I'm not trying to win anything. He can still replace the motherboard but keep the AMD CPU.
