So I just recently finished building my PC, and everything seemed fine until I plugged my headset in (no audio AT ALL). My system only recognizes the monitors as audio devices. I have my headset plugged in (in the right color audio jacks), but it still won't register the device being plugged in. I have tried unistalling and reinstalling the audio drivers, trying multiple headsets, looking to make sure it's not sitting as a disabled device, EVERYTHING. Not sure what else I could do, or what I'm doing wrong here. On my old rig, this same headset was recognized almost immediately as I hooked it into the audio jacks. I have had no issues with anything in my new build since I got it up and running, however this is my first time working with an AMD build, so I'm not sure if I'm just not using the right drivers or something. The only thing showing in the Device Manager under Sound, video and game controllers, is AMD High Definition Audio Device. I do know that I was using Realtek Audio on my old rig to have my headset run through, but I tried downloading it and it never actually did anything to my system, even after restarting. Any and all help on this issue is GREATLY appreciated, I just want to get to gaming, but I can't until I can actually hear my games.

It should also be worth noting that my headset is the SteelSeries Arctic 3.

Are you plugging it into the front of your case? Or the rear motherboard audio?

For the former, did you connect the front panel audio to your motherboard correctly? Does it work if you plug your headphones into your rear motherboard audio?

Im trying to plug it into the rear motherboard audio. I have the front panel audio cable plugged into the only location I can with that cable. Is there a separate cable for audio for the rear motherboard audio? Cause if so, I don't have that...

Motherboards have audio jacks on the back, no cable needed.

Haha, no it's not muted. The system refuses to even recognize it, so I wish it was as simple as unmuting it...

Did you update windows recently? the latest update has had issues with Realtek drivers, try using DDU to uninstall them then reinstall.

I'm assuming I have the most up to date windows since I just recently setup this system. I'll give DDU a shot, I know these windows updates have been killer, so really hoping that this can resolve the issue.

So I think my issue is that I somehow don't have Realtek Audio on my list. Somehow I have the Realtek Bluetooth, but not plain Realtek. I've tried going to their website and downloading the driver from them, but either my system doesn't accept the download or it's downloading and not actually doing anything because when I go back to look at what audio drivers I have installed it still just shows the AMD High Definition Audio Device (not plugged in).

I attempted to install the Realtek driver directly from their website, but once it runs the InstallWizard and has me restart my computer and everything, it still refuses to show anything Realtek related in my entire system. I just feel like I'm installing a virus over and over or something. I've never had an issue with not having Realtek or having an issue with something downloading and then not appearing somewhere to show proof that it exists somewhere.... This might be quite literally the most anger I have ever had pent up towards a computer issue...

Looks like you have the Onboard Audio disabled in BIOS. Go into BIOS and turn it back on.

Went into BIOS, the HD Audio Controller was already enabled. Somehow I have to communicate to my system that my graphics card is not responsible for reading audio playback... I can hook up my headset to the back of my monitor and hear audio just fine. There's no way for me to obtain any other driver other than the "AMD High Definition Audio Device".

Also, it shows the Realtek HIgh Definition Audio Driver when I go to Apps & Features. I can uninstall it, but that's the only place I can seem to locate anything relating to Realtek other than my Bluetooth Realtek Driver.

Its actually worse than that, your PC is not detecting the audio device exists at all. Its like its disabled or broken.

Could you grab an ISO of ubuntu, stick it on a USB, boot from it and see if it woorks in Linux?

I had this issue on an old watercooled rig I built out of a dual xeon 2U server (don't ask), but that was because I actually didn't have any audio hardware.
Simplest fix is really simple, use an external audio device.
If you can't get the chip working you may have a motherboard RMA in your future.

Do you think if I bought a sound card that maybe that could alleviate the issue? That way I could just have the audio reliant on the card versus the motherboard? I'm not sure if that even works or makes sense, but it sounds like a cheaper and cleaner route to go versus replacing my motherboard entirely.

If you just built it RMA dat shizz, it's DOA, that's not on you.

But yes, an external audio solution with its own dedicated drivers will likely fix the issue.

Well the issue is that I didn't realize it upon purchase, but my mobo is actually used. I bought it off Amazon and thought it'd still be a safe bet, but APPARENTLY not... But if that's the only issue I have with this mobo then I got a great deal out of it in the long run. Usually runs for around $400.00 and I got it for just under $200. So, I'll take a flimsy $50 sound card and fix my issue, thank you so much for your help on this issue though, I greatly appreciate you trying to help me through all this!

A sound card may still rely on the onboard drivers which may or may not be 'f**ky' on your system given what we've seen so far, I'm no expert in this area but the only thing i can say for sure is that an external audio device (whether audio interface, USB sound card or otherwise) with its own drivers should fix the issue.
