Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has any experience overclocking the -9600KF as a lot of the games I play are CPU bound and I am thinking about trying to get it near the 5GHz mark. I've already got to 4.8GHz boost on all cores (default is 4.6GHz on cores 0 and 1 I think) using the Intel XTU (and the BIOS to get all cores up to boost speed) but anything over that so far has caused a crash, I'm convinced this is to do with the voltages as my temps under load are fine (74°C max in cinebench R20) and the voltages are what worry me the most about overclocking. Motherboard and power delivery aren't issues either as I have a Z390-A PRO and a 750W PSU. I'd really appreciate it if anyone had any tips for a relatively novice overclocker, or even better, any specific overclocking advice for the -9600K or 9600KF as they are essentially the same chip. Thank you!

What voltage do you have set currently?

Also have you tried setting ipce and seeing where that came get you ?

Right now I'm not too sure about the voltage, I haven't changed it at all. What would be sensible and safe increments to increase it by though, would increasing by 0.5V then testing each time be a good idea?

I'm assuming the ipce is in the BIOS right? What will that change?

That could work

The way I go about things is increasing the frequency by a bit let's say increasing the multiplier by 100mhz

So for e.g from let's say 4.6 to 4.7 etc and then if I hit a road block I increase the voltage by a bit so let's say + 0.4-0.5

If you want to do that

It's a pain and it does take time but it could work

It you want you can try 1.35-1.4 and then try 5ghz

And maybe you can set an LLC profile

My 8600K (basically the same CPU) ran at 5.0 GHz at ~1.3 Volts all day(sorry, can't remember exact value, maybe even 1.35V) It ran 5.2 GHz aswell but only at ridiculous voltage over 1.4. My cooler was a bequiet Dark Rock pro 4. Temps were around 80°C while under cinebench load, while gaming more 60-70°C.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Yeah sorry, was looking in the XTU and got myself confused, I'm wanting to avoid frying my CPU lol

Nice, vielen Dank, I'll make sure to give it a go. Does bumping the voltage up too high for a short amount of time pose a big risk to the lifespan of the CPU?

Brilliant thank you, I've already got 4.8GHz stable which is a 200MHz overclock with no changes to voltages or anything else (except setting it on all 6 cores) but I'll then try 4.9, 5.0 and so on with slightly increasing voltages until I reach a stable value. What is an LLC profile?

Just a last question, what would be the absolute maximum value I should set the voltage to (so I know to avoid it) and will this damage or decrease the lifespan of my CPU at all?

With that board nothing more than 1.4

Basically it's a profile that allows the cpu to ask for more voltage to it can boost higher

This is a rough explanation but you can read about it it's pretty fun

If you have that option you can set it to auto and it should be fine

Voltage up to 1.4 should be fine and not Change the lifespan that much. I'd say max 1.35 to 1.4 should be safe for 24/7 use. Just keep in mind, the lower you can get the voltage at your OC the lower the temps will be. So keep it as low as possible while still being stable.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

For 24/7 usage, I like to stay under 1.35V, but some will say that anything up to 1.4V is still just fine. Over that though is kind of high imo, especially for long-term usage.

I agree 1.4 is a little high but for something like a pretty hefty overclock 1.4 isn't bad

And that board while it doesn't have the best power delivery it should handle it no problem

But 1.35 could still work ;)

Thanks again everyone, I've got it to 4.9GHz stable with 1.35V and temps almost at 80°C in the XTU test (what is the highest temp I should avoid btw, bearing in mind before trying to OC today I was getting between 50-60°C in CPU intensive games?). I'm now getting current limit throttling, which luckily I can see can be easily changed with the XTU but I'm not sure what values are safe?
