Best Thermal Compund?

DGB

I haven't changed the thermal compound on my CPU in 4 years (since I built it) and someone suggested I should probably replace it to see if it'll fix some CPU issues I was having (https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1205293-cpu-lag-spikes/). I last used AS5 but I'm wondering if there are better alternatives now. My CPU is an FX-8350

Thanks!

EDIT: Heatsink is a Hyper 212 EVO

Top Dog right now is Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. AS5 is still a decent paste, but far from the top anymore like it use to be.

I have a bag full of different little tubes of thermal paste, it really isn't a huge deal unless you're running high overclocks. Arctic Silver has been one I've used for many years so far. What cooler are you running?

My Current Setup:

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

EVGA RTX 3060 Ti XC

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

WD 5400RPM 2TB

EVGA G3 750W

Corsair Carbide 300R

Arctic Fans 140mm x4 120mm x 1

If you have Arctic Silver laying around, and it's not really old, I'd try a re-apply and see if that doesn't help. Even with modern games at reasonable settings, FX is still getting it done. My brother is rocking an FX-8350/8GB 1600mhz/RX 480 4GB setup I built him a few years back, he plays Fallout 76 and we get a game of Minecraft going now and then.

The FX is highly underrated imo it's served me well. As for the AS5, I have it but it's been laying around for 4 years and I've seen that those compounds tend to expire after 3 years or so sitting on the shelf.

You should probably get some new paste as even if it looks ok and taste fine it might be expired and won't lead to the best temps it could give you.

please don't taste it ...

I really like Thermalright TF8, very good stuff. At 13.8W/m.k its not their best, but its good enough for what I'm doing.

The top dog right now is Thermaright TFX, but I'm unsure how it compares to the Kingpin KPX and that other popular subzero paste.  I've tested it side by side on TWO coolers on two different 10900k on two different motherboards.  NH-D15 and 360mm AIO.  Versus Kryonaut, about 2-3C better temps after curing a few days.  I have 150 grams of homemade Galinstan LM, two syringes of Kryonaut (one's almost gone), some NT-H1, Coolermaster Gel Maker Nano, MX-4 (old 2012 version) etc...even some really old Ceramique I used as a 'dam' for liquid metal..
