ssd upgrade ideas?

Wazek

hello guys, i have a 500gb ssd patriot burst.

i am thinking to update the ssd because i updated my whole system some weeks ago and i need some more speed, because i have the ssd from 2018 and it has lost its performance..

i am checking 3 discs right now:

samsung evo 970 plus 500gb

samsung 970 pro 500gb

and the budget friendly: wd blue m.2 1tb

my system is:

tomahawk b450 max mobo

ryzen 7 3800x

g.skill 16gb 3200mhz

rx5700 msi mech oc

my only concerns about the upgrade are:

will b450 max use the full performance of samsung drives? or i should go with wd blue m2?

and my seccond concern , are the samsung driver compatible with my mobo? what about temps? will i have any problems? i have 5 case fans + the dark rock v4 fan on the fractal r4 case

thanks in advance

usually just using the TRIM function on the old SSD will put its performance back

even if you were to replace/add another SSD, SATA SSDs are usually enough (which means no NVMe for cost savings), I know this with HP EX920 and Samsung 840 Pro as they feel the same to me. I play games and do office work, not more though.

As for M.2 SATA or 2.5" SATA, M.2 makes things more tidy while disabling 2 SATA ports on this mobo so that's a choice you'll have to make.

The new WD Blue SN550 is an NVME drive, unless you are referring to the old version:

What do you mean it lost its performance? How much free space do you have on it?

Check pricing for either of the following drives: Sabrent Rocket, WD SN750, ADATA SX8200 Pro, HP EX950, Silicon Power P34A80. They should be between the WD Blue and Samsung 970 Pro in terms of pricing, and should even be below the 970 Evo, which performs very similarly to all of the above. I'd advise against the WD Blue, as it lacks a DRAM cache.

in my country (Greece) ADATA SX8200 Pro 500gb is 87 euro, is the cheaper from the whole list that you provided, and the samsung 970 plus 250gb is 79 and the 500gb version while the 1tb is 118..

i am thinking 3 choices: go with the ADATA SX8200 PRO 500gb,

OR

samsung 970 plus 250 gb + keep my old ssd for some games

OR

wait for my next month income to buy the samsung 500gb

what you think is more good for my system? and what about the temps? will i have any problems with my tower? i have 5 case fans + 1 of the dark rock v4.. 3 push 2 exhaust 1of the cpu cooler

the example is done on HDD, but you can do the same to SSD (underlying mechanics is different but that's not important)

You will lose 2 SATA ports, as the website and user's manual points out for this board.

I'd get the SX8200 Pro. You're getting near identical real-world performance to the 970 Evo, and for twice the capacity and a lower cost, I think it's a no-brainer.
