I assume you did it through Windows Optimise Drives utility?

If so, open the utility, click change settings under Scheduled Optimisation and disable the schedule on whatever drive you want.

Why do you want to turn it off? It's good for your drive, it will run TRIM operations on SSDs and defrag HDDs.

If I turn have it on, doesn't it shortern the life of the SSD?

No, the opposite with modern SSDs with good controllers. It will improve performance and extend life.

TRIM commands don't actually do anything by themselves in terms of removing data. It tells the SSD what data is no longer being used. The SSD can then do what it wants with that information. Modern SSDs mostly keep record of it and instead of copying the unused files around when something tries to write, it will just overwrite it.

If you don't run TRIM commands, the SSD is going to be moving no longer used data when something tries to write to it, which will both impede performance and use up write cycles unnecessarily.

Defragging an SSD would hurt, but that's not what Windows will do.

I optimized my ssd on accident and I wanna turn it off but I dont know how.

There is a DIFFERENCE between OPTIMIZING and DEFRAGGING.

Windows should only give you the Optimize option for an SSD, and Defrag option for a mechanical spinning HDD.

Optimize = Good for SSD.

Defrag = Good for HDD.

Windows now just uses optimise for both SSD and HDD, though the actual action it takes is different. Guess they just wanted to make it simple.

If you optimise an HDD, it will analyse, then report the % fragmentation, then show the status as defragging/defragementing. With SSDs, it will show trimming.

Oh they changed it eh?

Crap...I haven't had a mechanical HDD on Windows 10 for a while now... 😑
