Closed Back Gaming Headset

Ataxia

Hi folks

That time has come around again and its time to replace my Hyper X Revolver S headset.

The problem I have is that my desk is in the living room of my house so the headset cannot leak any sound.

I have tried the Logitech G935s as I previously had the G930s which I loved, and replaced under warranty 3 times due to a design fault.

The G935s had very good sound, but they leak sound like crazy. Being partially deaf I have the volume quite high and that would have driven my wife to kill me off, and I do so value my life.

I like the Revolver S but tbh I don't think the sound was as good as the G935s.

I can't use Steelseries since I have tried them twice before and the software causes my system to crash especially in games.

I have a budget for headphones and mic / headset of around £200 GBP

Obviously I am looking for closed back. The usage is going to be mostly gaming things like Far Cry/Fallout/Outer worlds that sort of thing, with a lot of movies and youtube videos.

Any help you could give would be appreciated

Get the DT770 Pro (80 ohm if you don't have an external audio solution) and an antlion modmic
Or
ATH M40x and Vmoda BoomPro

Either option will blow the socks of anything branded as a 'gaming' headset.

I've personally been using a pair of Sennheiser Game Ones for quite a while now and have been really satisfied with the sound quality (much better than any "gaming headset" I've had prior to these), even on (granted better than average) onboard audio. The mic's also quite good for a headset microphone.

That being said, they are open back, so you'd have to look at the Game Zero, which are closed back.

Another really good (or possibly better) option would be what @The Flying Sloth mentioned above, which is going with a pair of non-gaming headphones that will sound better than most if not all gaming headsets out there, and pairing that with either a ModMic or a desk microphone like a Blue Snowball.

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

Display: Gigabyte G34WQC

I would strongly recommend against purchasing a cheap USB mic like the snowball, as explained in the link in my signature they tend to break in really unexpected ways and they don't save you any money over a proper solution with a cheap audio interface and XLR microphone. The only exceptions to this rule that I'm aware of are the Samson Q2U and AT2005USB as they have both XLR and USB connectivity, they're built to a much higher standard than other USB mics and if the USB circuitry ever fails they still function as a true XLR microphone so your investment isn't entirely wasted.

Hi everyone thanks for all the replies.

Are there any decent wireless option available to me that would work in my situation?

Hmm if you want wireless with really good sound then THX Panda probably, I'm not updated with Drop's pricing but I think it costs a lot more than 200GBP

Another I could think of is HyperX Cloud Mix, its right within your budget, though I'm not all too familiar with how they sound.
