Dell G7 17 GPU temps

Go to solution Solved by 5x5,

Idle temps do not matter. Only load values are relevant. Tech can idle at 20, it can idle at 60 - it depends on a dozen factors and is largely irrelevant as everything under 87 is safe for Nvidia.

Hi,

I am slightly concerned about my laptops temps whilst on idle.

On Idle, my cores average around the low to mid 40's. However My GPU averages anywhere between 50-56.

My specs:
i7 9750h
RTX 2070 Max-q Design
16GB Ram

I have read many conficting things on various forums. Most people say 50-56 is fine for a laptop GPU temp whilst idling. However, some say it is slightly a bit too much for average temps whilst idling.

Would anyone say this is normal? If not, what methods could I do to make it cooler. I have read about Laptop cooling pads, but they seem not to improve things by much. Would a smimple stand for the laptop make the GPU cooler?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.

Under heavy load I believe the GPU does reach temps of around 65, maybe 70 but im not too sure. I know for certain it has never reached into the 80's.

I am still considering using a stand but am not sure as of yet.

you do not need one. What are your CPU temps?

I would actually say that is less then most desktop PCs

My CPU idles at around 39-47.

Under heavy load I have not tested it recently, however I would asume it would be anywhere between 50-65.

If you can keep a laptop CPU under load under 65C colour me impressed.

I dont have any games installed on my laptop currently, so just guessing. It's probably more towards 70.
