Posted May 28, 2020 Hi, I want to make a (cheap and simple) cloud solution for storing my large files that I need on multiple devices, but I don't have any real experience with this... This is what I have so far: - First of all, I found this article that uses OwnCloud on a Raspberry Pi, which seems perfect for my needs - I have 2 2.5" HDDs (SATA) that I can use for this project (together they have enough capacity for my current and near future needs) However, I'm not sure on how to connect the hard drives to the Pi, can I use a USB to SATA adapter for this (also to power the hard drives)? Is there anything else that I should know about before starting this project? Which Raspberry Pi do I need for this? (memory requirements etc.) Also any other advice is certainly welcome! Posted May 28, 2020 Get a Pi 4 with 4GB of RAM. You'll also need something like this. Its going to get pretty messy though as you're going to have 2 boards, 2 wall warts, 2 SATA drives and 2 SATA cables. It might be better if you just get a USB 3 HDD and connect that instead. Also look into OMV for the Pi. Posted May 28, 2020 Theoretically yes however I'm not 100% sure those cables pass enough power to a 2.5" drive. Normally a portable USB HDD with have a dual end on the A side, one is used for data, the second is used purely for power. If you can find one with a dual A end then it should work fine.
