Budget (US) $1,250 or less (if it does not fit the price range but its a really good PC thats ok too)

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Apex legends, Fortnite, Minecraft, And making youtube videos + streams.

Other: I have never made a PC before and I am tight on money. I would really appriciate it if someone could help me find good quality parts for a decent amount of money or a decent pre-built that fits my price range. Thanks!

First off, $1500 is a great budget for a gaming PC. If you're tight on money, don't be afraid to lower the budget. Secondly, piecing together a build with no details is very difficult. I'll throw some questions at you to get the ball rolling and seeing what type of system you'll need:

  1. What's the resolution/refresh rate of your monitor? You could easily fit a gaming monitor into your budget if you'd like to get a new one as well.
  2. How familiar are you with setting up and using storage on multiple drives? It may be helpful to invest in a single large boot SSD.
  3. RGB? yay or nay? or meh

Savage's list is great for your expected needs, but perhaps we could figure out better uses for the budget if we better know what you'll need.

That is just a terrible build all round.

Why are you suggesting a locked i9 when the 3700X is around $180 cheaper for the same cores/threads ? That platform is dead anyway.

That cooler is weak as hell. Also why are you speccing an ITX build in the first place ? The op did not specify he wanted a small form factor.

Erm 1 x 4GB and 1 x 16GB of Ram ? Seriously ?

WD Green SSD's are slow, and WD Black are overpriced.

Again why ITX ? Unless he wants it then go with an ATX case/board, but not Z390.

A 5700XT is faster than the 2060 Super for around the same money.

Bad value psu considering the CoolerMaster MWE Gold is only $5 more.

Thanks guys for all the help!! I have watched enough videos and done enough research to understand How to make a PC and what to look for and you guys have helped alot. one thing i will say though is when i say 1,500 or less as a budget i want to minimize the amount as much as possible but still having a decent machine. when I say Im tight on money I mean it took me a while to just buy a chair and desk for this stuff. another thing is I do want RGB and also a decent cooling system. I dont want it to be too loud but its ok if its a little loud. I mean dont pick fans that are extremely obnoxious. It would help If you guys help me find a or build a decent PC for around 1,000 US dollars. If you cant put together a decent PC for that much I can stretch to about 1,250 if that helps.

Once again, Thank you!

the psu is good enough and saves him 5$

intel is just as good as amd and 8 cores is over kill for gaming

16gb of ram is good enough but I found that 4 exctra gb would be affordable and was not to expensive

wd Green is good enough for loading an operating system.

Wd black might be a little pricey but I have not found a hard drive more reliable then a wd black and I'v had my wd black for the last 8 years while other drives like segate have died.

the motherboard size is perfect as he's only gaming

the case is not my number one choice but it fit in the budget.

the best case is Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced Mini-Itx as it fit's a mini itx mother board with a full size gpu

The psu is crap for the money. An extra $5 gets you a much better unit.

So is Intel $180 better ? No it isn't. You are wasting money on a locked cpu on a dead platform.

Sorry but it is just stupid to suggest that 1 x 4GB and 1 x 16GB is a good setup. You want matching sticks for dual channel.

The WD Green is a slow DRAMless SSD. The WD Blue is only $6 more and is way better. And a 240GB is small for a gaming pc, for a budget like this.

Yes WD Black might be perfectly fine, but they are still overpriced. He would be better with a bigger SSD and a 2TB HDD.

So what if the case fits the budget ? There is no reason to go ITX in the first place unless specified by the op. That form factor is dying out as more manufacturers are releasing more ATX than mATX or ITX.

  • Doubt 6c/12t of a 3600 would be enough for gaming+streaming.
  • mATX motherboard. They're generally cheaper, but make sure you know what limitation you're running into. Usually the main limitations are having less PCE-E slots or less SATA slots.
  • Cheap but well reviewed DDR4-3000+ RAM
  • It doesn't seem to me like the games you'll be playing will need much storage, but any video production will need LOTS (right? idk about this area).
  • HDD left out as generic $200 value. WD Elements 8,10,12 TB external drives go (pretty frequently I would say, checkout /r/buildapcsales) for $130-$200 on sale. If you don't want to wait any of the other mass storage drives above will do fine.
  • Nvidia encoder for better streaming. I really don't know anything about what those words mean, but I know it gets brought up a lot. Plus I had troubles with the 5700 XT in late 2019 which left a bad taste in my mouth.
  • Case is left as generic $80 value. I don't really consider cases to make much of a difference, so I figure you should just get one you'll like to look at.

In general, get the cheapest (but make sure the reviews are decent at least) 3700X + 2060S + 16GB DDR4-3000+ set you can find, back that up with a well reviewed smallish boot drive (it doesn't have to be nvme, but if you've got the slot I'd suggest using it), mobo that has what you need, and at least an 80+ Gold PSU. Even if you don't need it, I consider 650W Gold the minimum since most PSUs will last you 2 builds/upgrades or more.

Lastly, you could check around your local Craigslist/FB Market/r/hardwareswap/etc. for used parts. Before the human malware situation I was able to snag a 5700 XT for $250 and a 10TB WD Elements for $100 off of Craiglist. I generally like to make sure the seller knows what they have, ask about any benchmarks, general care questions -- just to make sure it's working and whatnot. Please have a parent aid you if you decide to go that route. Gl!

That motherboard is just plain awful. You are asking for trouble putting a 3700X on that thing.

Also why are you suggesting $200 on storage ? He wants to save as much money as possible. That is just overkill.

The AMD drivers are a lot more stable, and the 2060 Super is slower than the 5700XT for about the same price.

This is my build for you:

You need to add about $350 for the CPU.  So about $1,449.90 total (although you can shop around and maybe find these parts cheaper elsewhere).

That video shows performance with a 2080 ti. It wouldn't be anywhere near as bad with a 2060 Super. For the games he has listed he would even be fine with an R5 3600 for $170ish.

Also the op mentions he is 11 yrs old so probably not buying a 2080 ti anytime soon.
