For what I assume 1080p at high you'll get somewhere around 100ish and lowest you'll get around 240ish-260ish

(I don't play fortnite I'm just basing it off of other things)

I wouldn't think so, I dont believe I hit that with my R9 Fury when I played that game and its faster than a RX 580.

Probably not as if you want 240 fps constant on anything >= high, you will need a GTX 1080 or 1080 Ti. You can get a second hand one for good deals

I tried on the same setup but with a 1060 3gb prob even worse I have some tweaked settings mostly high some epic and it hit around 225 - 250 low 120 on 1920 x 1080 res with 90% 3d

well the 8400 has really good ipc for what it is ( cofee lake is still good ) and has 6 cores and 6 threads so it is pretty good even in today's standards

my friend has similar system. he achieves 200-280 fps on everything low (3d res 100%) depending on the are of the game

Well the IPC is decent but actually even ryzen 5 1600 has better ipc. (watch hardware unboxe's 8400vs 1600 video)

6 cores is pretty good for 2020 but 6 threads not so much

It only isn't that much if the software CAN use more.  In this case Im not sure Fortnite is optimized to use that many threads.

 

EDIT - just looked it up, after 2 cores (threads) its within margin of error using more threads.  Anything more than 2 on a good IPC chip wont really matter in Fortnite

i can confirm i5 8XXX is great with an RX580, then again my most demanding game is Skyrim so...

i5 8600 - RX580 - Fractal Nano S - 1080p 144Hz

If you play on 1080p then year but you might have to lower some settings on fortnite to hit that 240 FPS mark
