So ethernet?

Ethernet if it’s possible always.  There are numerous advantages.  It’s not just faster it’s a lot faster, and you don’t have all the constant problems of radio signal transmission.  That said wifi is handy to have.  Remember WiFi is just consumer unlicensed radio.  As such it’s quite weak and subject to a lot of things.  Ethernet is just flat out easier to deal with.  The issue is the cable.  Sometimes the cable run is so hard WiFi is the only option.  If both are available though ethernet beats wifi stupid.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

The only downside for me is gonna be getting the cable run from the front to the back of my house.

F*ck

Yep.  That’s the issue alright.  It’s a major reason people go WiFi.  The standard method with running cable is to use what is called a fish tape.  If the attic is above the ceiling it’s easy you just run the cable up there and across.  If it’s not and you have to deal with a second story or something stuff gets really difficult really fast.  There’s a device called a diversibit that can be used to drill through intervening joists but it’s not exactly easy.  One important factor is which way the joists run.  If you have to go through 20 joists to run a cable it gets untenable really fast.    One option I’ve seen people use is 10base2 power line ethernet which uses already in place electrical wiring.  It’s got a lot of limitations though.  If you do wind up fishing stuff may I suggest fishing flexible electrical conduit if you can and then running the ethernet cable through that.  It makes things a bit more difficult for the same return at first but if you event have to replace the cable (I’ve seen ethernet cable do 3 iterations in the lifetime of my house) it makes replacement gigantically easier.
