Mixing Maxwell and Pascal Quadro cards

So I have a P4000, and I'd like to add a second card to make rendering faster. I found an M4000 on CL near me for a good price. Does anyone know if I can run Pascal and Maxwell cards in the same system?

Thanks

what programs are you using?

NOrmally for rendering, get a gtx/rtx card. There much faster for the price.

3ds Max and Redshift Renderer.

You are absolutely correct. I bought the Quadro at the height of the Bitcoin craziness, when it was the same price as a comparable Geforce card. Now I need some extra power, and 3ds Max will scale across multiple cards.

I could get more bang for my buck by adding a used Quadro than replacing the Quadro with a Geforce card.

HOw much is the m4000?

Unless its super cheap. A 970/980/1060/1070 would be faster.

About $300. Since then, I've found a similar deal for a P4000, so it's a bit of a moot point.

I think you could get a card like a 2060 or 1660 or used 1080 for that amount, and those would be much faster than any of the quadros at rendering. You can mix the geoforce and quadro cards aswell

I'd read that there might be driver issues.

Ive done this, not really, they mix reasonbly well. Run the display off the quadro, and let the geoforce do the compute.

I'll give it a try - I have a Geforce card laying around. Would I need to install both drivers?

Just install one driver. You can only have one nvidia gpu driver per system, probably want the version for the quadro. The gtx cards will work fine with that driver.
