Ryzen 5 1600 AF won't post on a B450 ASRock

Hello everyone, my building experience has been a nightmare. I've just recently bought my second pc ever. The total package is:

-Ryzen 5 1600AF

-Asrock B450 Gaming-itx/AC

-Corsair vengeance DDR4

-Corsair SF450 PSU

-Gtx 1660 super

-CM ml120 lite

Now the problem is the system is in some kind of bootloop. Fans and lights turn on, but after ~15seconds everything turns off again. After this, it all turns on again for an infinite amount of times. During this, no sounds lights or video outputs. In order to fix this I tried the following:

-Different orientation of RAM

-Different PSU

-reapplying cooler

-Booting with only cpu and cooler attached

-Cleared CMOS

Nothing seems to alter the behaviour of the system. Does anyone know what to do? I am clueless at this moment...

The problem is likely that the motherboard does not have the right BIOS update to support the AMD CPU.

The 1600AF is newer than B450.

Options:

- Get a loaner CPU from the AMD RMA department (https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-100#faq-Short-Term-Processor-Loan-Boot-Kit)

- Loan a CPU (first gen Ryzen preferably) from someone else

- Contact a nearby store, which might update the BIOS for free/ a small fee (if they have compatible CPU's on the shelves)

I do have a Ryzen 5 1600 in another system. However I have never flashed a bios before, how does this work?

Ram in slots 2 and 4?

Only two slots of ram in the system. I tried all different configurations and also tested without the ram installed.

Where to download: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/Fatal1ty B450 Gaming-ITXac/index.asp#BIOS (seems like 3.40 is the recommended version for your CPU)

How to do this update: https://www.asrock.com/support/BIOSIG.asp?cat=BIOS10 (basically have a USB drive formatted to FAT32, place the BIOS file on it and follow the steps to update your BIOS. Of course don't turn your PC off in the process of updating)

Do keep in mind these warnings:

Quote

* Please install "AMD all in 1 with VGA driver ver:18.50.16.01_WHQL" or a later version before updating to this BIOS.
** If you updated the BIOS before updating the AMD all in one driver, please refer to the Display recovery SOP to recover your system.
*** User will not able to flash previous BIOS once upgrading to this BIOS version.
**** If the current BIOS version is older than P1.70, please update BIOS to P1.70(PinnaclePI-AM4_1.0.0.6) before updating this version.

Especially with the 4th one, check what BIOS you have (which you can do after you have installed the 1600 non-AF chip).

I have tried it with a 1600 non-af chip, but it still won't post. Any other ideas?

Just to be clear, you have your monitor connected to your GTX 1660 Super videocard? Your 24 pin ATX, 8 pin EPS and the videocard's cable are all properly plugged in?

Have you tried running the system with a single stick of memory?

I have tried all of these, however I did not perform all tests with the gpu as output. After testing the ram I used the hdmi on the MB as video output, could that cause the bootloop?

The processor used (whether it's the 1600AF or non-AF) does not have video out. So it would not post without a GPU, you need to the videocard in the system to post.

Not saying it should bootloop without the GPU, but I'm just saying it can only POST when you have the GPU in the system and have you monitor plugged into there.
