Where there any efforts back in the days of analog computers to "overclock" them or make them run faster without changing components? If so are their any specific examples? Thanks

Overclocking Nintendo's Gameboy? such act literally speeds up the game and distorts the audio by playing it faster. You can also underclock it which had the opposite effect

Technically, the real analog computers were machines like Babbage's (with programming by Ada Lovelace)

You could run the mechanism at a higher RPM, risking breakage of the parts.....I guess.

Doesn't make much sense, since an analog computer has no clock speed. You apply voltage and you immediately get the result for the equation your setup represents. To calculate something different you have to alter the setup (physically rewire stuff to represent a different equation).

Do you mean finite-state machines? And vacuum tubes were in fact used to build digital computers. They are used the same way transistors are today, with a clock speed and "binary" code to represent two states (on/off) making them digital devices.

 

It's also not like the first digital computers where mass market items with a rated clock speed. Pretty sure people where happy to get them running at all and you chose a clock speed based on what was stable.
